I need to start doing some box squats for a while as my form is starting to get a bit sloppy with the heavier weight. Is there any problem using a standard padded bench for box squats? Also, is 10 sets x 2 reps at 50-60% of my 1RM the best scheme for doing these?

Those benches are usually high.

10 sets of 2 @ those %s are for speed/dynamic effort work. Is that what you're trying to accomplish? For dynamic work the box should be slightly below parallel, so a padded bench most likely wouldn't work.

Make sure your form is good it makes a huge difference, throw a vid up if possible.

I've been using a bench, and while it is a little high, it comes out just at, or a little over parallel due to my height....i'm only 6ft.

That's all I can do at my sissy gym because they do not have any thing else to use. It is working great though.

use whatever ya can man. just make sure ya know the weight limit on the bench and try to stay outta the dead middle of it (dont end up flipn' it but you know what i mean) tho.
you can also stack 45 plates in a pinch if ya hafta.

haha dork, i was just blessed to grow in other places, you can't have it all. I bet those benches are barely parallel for you those are like 18'' -- pretty high.

I am 6 foot even. I tested out a bench last night. It seems that it puts me either right at parallel or maybe a tad above it. I asked someone at the gym to tell me if the top of my thigh was parallel to the floor and he said that it was.

I'm 6'2 and a parallel box for me is 15inches. These benches are usually 17-18inches so it is prolly high. Parallel means when your hip is below the top of your knee not when your thigh is parallel to the floor.

I have a question....

When Box squatting with a bench, should you be off the end of the bench or stradling (sp) it between your legs? Or does it even matter?

...not sure that made sense....
