Sorry guys, no hot bodies in this thread. But I figured Ulter and T-Cake might be interested to see the progress on the house since they were there last... for those of you who don't know (and are interested), my family (Mr. Nobody's family) began designing this house since early 2005. The builders broke ground in January of 2006 and it was supposed to be finished that October. There were some hitches along the way that slowed the construction and our builder was a very frustratingly flaky man, but we figured we had the time.

This was dad posing in the doorway in April 2006:

...more of our builder's fuck-ups on construction... and then the accident. Everything came to a screeching halt. And the house wasn't touched by a constructive hand for over a year. Recently we've had over 30,000 dollars in damage done to the house - twice it has been vandalized and equipment has been stolen. Only now have we had some help in getting it built.

This is the house today... almost two years after it should have been completed:

The house next door - started and completed in about 8 months:

I didn't even get shots of mine and my brother's rooms or the wing opposite my parents'.

We basically need a miracle to live in the house now. The expenses would probably bury us. And the market for buyers is so bad, my mother, brother and I don't know what to do. This was such a great dream for us all....

On a lighter note: you might live in the south if....

It's a lot closer to being done than when I saw it. At least it's moving forward.

Apparently the workers make some pretty serious cash...

I can imagine the whole process creates a melting pot of emotions. Blessings on the project!

having been through the frustration of building on a LOT shorter term :eek3: I have no idea why one of the construction team isn't pushing up daisies by now  you all show a lot of self control :naughty:

Does look like it will be a very beautiful house IF they ever finish the dam thing :frantic:

I read this thread just before I had to head out to the gym this afternoon, and then it popped back into my head on the drive back home. I did a blow out leg workout and was in a very mellow, post-wo pheramones state of mind. The things that immediaely came to mind were:

1) This was dad posing in the doorway in April 2006:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y57/kaleidovisi0n/otherstuff/The%20House/FreiHouseApril016.jpg

No BB'er can be in a photograph w/o hitting a pose.

2) Those pictures remind me soooo much of FL and how much I miss it.

3) What a stinker your family's situation is but how glad I am that things are moving forward.

4) I still feel a profound hole in my universe where there was a great guy I briefly e-met via PM, a movingly profound hole in your universe, and an even more profound hole in the universe at large.

Thx for sharing Scar.

thanks for sharing those pics.. its such a shame that the project has taken this length of time, but they are moving.

Good fortune will come your way soon enough Scar, keep your faith and know that your big guy is watching and taking care of you from above.

I love how they make the homes down there out of block.

I remember when I came down to Tampa a few years back and went out to eat with your dad. Is that where the house is?

What's worse is how tough it is to find a good mason down in FL. May just don't understand the idea behind keeping the course lines horizontal. I we were looking at the cost to bus a crew down from Cleveland because we couldn't find and good crew down there for a large project. LOL, we decided to go with a tilt up concrete panel design instead.

It looks like a great dream; now that you can see it.
Sorry your family has had to go through such a tough time with contractors, let alone missing your dad.

If you need any help "construction law" wise I have been building homes & buildings for 25 years. I'm sure you have investigated all your options but you can PM me if you need anything.

That truck is off the wall...

Thanks everyone for the support. And lol, Sassy - so true.
Just FYI that doorway was about 15ft high, the actual door being around 10ft high...

It's a lot closer to being done than when I saw it. At least it's moving forward.

Yeah, that's basically how we feel about it... at least something is getting done. Though there's still so much work to be put into decorating/painting decisions and stuff, especially for mom.

No, the house is in Lakeland - not to far from where dad worked. Hey, send me a PM or something... I didn't know you'd been down here and met him or anything. That's cool :)

I don't know if its actually possible, but I can see a very worthwhile & fun AF Meetup and Housework opportunity in sunny Florida....

You have no idea how incredible that would be... we have so much furniture and lighting and appliances and just THINGS spread together in like a hundred freaking storage spaces, and mom keeps saying we need to borrow a truck or something to be able to move stuff - the other partners of dad's business took his company car, an Avalanche, away about two months after the accident. And we need manual labor for doing things like getting the house painted. Then there's the problem of the state of chaos our current house is in... ugh, basically we sold my mom's mother's house in preparation for moving into the new one, but now we're all just kind of stuck here in the middle at my parents' house, in major need of at least a garage sale or something... our living situation is a mess. This whole thing is what we call a top-notch clusterf*ck.

No joke, we should do this.

Poll? :dunno: Hey, if Habitat can do it... AF peeps can swing it, if not better because so many folks here actually KNOW how to do something.

Lil, I'm glad it's movin' forward. Makes me sad to know how slow it's going... but at least it's goin'!
