Well my nagging shoulder has reared it's ugly head once again. I thought it was behind me and has been for at least a year now. I was diagnosed a while back w/ an impengement of the supraspinatus(rotator cuff). The only thing different I've done lately was starting back w/ weighted dips about 3 wks. ago. I had worked up to 110lbs for reps. I blame this on watching a video w/ Halfway repping out some nasty dips w/ 180lbs;). Now I can feel the type of discomfort I did a while back. It's not terrible but I can def. feel it coming on if I keep at it. I think for the next 2-3 wks. I'm going light on chest and shoulders and see how it plays out. Do you think it could be the dips as well as any recommendations on stopping this before it gets any worse? Thanks in advance.

I would discontinue any lifts that you think may have caused it until it heals.

Then before beginning again, review your form to make sure it is spot on.

Do you keep your elbows in during the dips?

Practice any rotator warm up exercises before pressing lifts?

Do you do any pec minor stretches?

No peck minor stretches but I've been doing rotator cuff exercises ever since I developed a problem with my shoulder some time back.

Doorway Modified Chest Stretch (http://www.exrx.net/Stretches/PectoralisMinor/Doorway.html)

that may indirectly help, it did for me once.

its definitely the dips. they are known to aggravate any shoulder problems. drop them from your routine for a weeks then give her a go again, starting light and making sure your form is perfect

What the Dog said.

I have seen some articles/research that suggest that deep dips can put abnormal stress on the shoulder joint and stretch the joint capsule/ligaments. Just something to think about.

I classify them with high upright rows - there are safer choices for your shoulders.

Thanks all. I figured it was prob. the dips. I haven't done them in yrs. and I remember why now. I really miss them as far as a tricep exercise. I don't know why I thought I could go back to them.
