Most formulas that calculate BMR end up somewhere with a calculation of your weight multiplied by a number between 9-12 for cutting. So, let's say I weigh 150lbs--my BMR is around 1500calories per day to LIVE, as in, optimally perform life functions such as breathing, crapping, sleeping, etc...

Most of these formulas, however, integrate the additional 500 or so calories necessary to go about your day. For example, if you work out, garden, walk your children to school, tend to pets, cook for a living, etc...

In other words, BMR = Solely enough energy to survive

Weight x activity factor (such as 1.50 for sedentary, 1.55 for light activity, etc..) = the actual needed amount of calories to go about your daily activities.

This calculation seems so logical to me. However, since I've been on this site I've learned that a person should eat, in calories, their weight x 10-12 to cut. I've never really eaten past the 10 mark much. So, I've pretty much let my metabolism halt at a standstill around a particular amount of cals.

Can anyone give me any feedback on what you think of the additional activity cals?

Ex: 150lb woman

Weight in lbs recalculated into kgs, plugged into particular formula = BMR of 1450 (example)

1450 x activity factor of 1.55 (light activity all day) = 2247 calories per day

Formulas are nice and all but you have to play with your individual progress. If you're not getting the results you want, it should be the most important thing to consider. The formulas only give you a starting point if you don't know where to begin.
