Alright here's the situation. My right gastroc had a minor tear in it from many years ago. It's a little deformed now, and about 1.5" smaller than my left. That in itself isn't the problem, i've learned to live with having sub-par calves. My problem is every time I work out calves i get massive brusing at the tear site. I saw a my doc and was referred to a specialist, he said there was nothing that could be done unless it was completely torn. And made it sound like it was not that far from happening. Anybody have any suggestions how to repair or work around this problem. Or should I just give up on working my calves fearing a complete tear.

My advice would be to get a second opinion.

If the tear is in the muscle belly, there is not much an ortho can do. Think of trying to sew togther some pieces of raw steak or a bunch of spaghetti. It just does not work. If the tendon pulls away from the bone (avulsed) then the ortho has something to work with.
This is a pretty weird circumstance. You are tearing the calf further everytime you work them, hence the bruising. Even after allowing ample time for recovery? |

Killer:It's not everytime i work them out, but the majority of times. I'm always careful to work them in controlled, slow reps. Once bruising occurs I RICE the area, and not work it out again until the brusing is disappeared. It's driving me crazy though, everything I do just seems to make it worse.

I second what monster said. I would go see a sports specialist and get a second opinion. I would want to know the reason for the bruising.
