When I clean & press, it’s basically a combination of a hang clean and push press, all done in one motion. i.e., the dip that finishes the clean is the start of the press. The dip in the push press clip is about as deep as I would go, however. It takes a while to get the technique down if you haven't done Olympic movements before, but once you have the clean down pat, it’s a piece of cake. I threw in the clip of the clean & jerk just for reference. I consider the clean & jerk more of a pure power exercise, where the goal is to accelerate the weight as fast as possible (note how the bar is dropped after the rep). Regardless, keeps your reps fairly low (<=6). I find that the nervous system is heavily stressed in a compound exercise that requires a lot of co-ordination, and if your rep to high, your muscles will stop firing properly before you fatigue.

I have some questions. Its a rookie one so here goes. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
On the last clip movement what is the overall point in that movement? Why not just lift the weight off of your shoulers/chest in a smooth movement? What does dipping down slightly acomplish?
It seems that by dipping down slightly and throwing the weight upward you could use more weight in the sense that it is a shoulder press but why?

for the explosiveness. Your right, you can use more wieght with the dipping.
When I do 'em its a combo of the first one and 3rd one. It shoul all be extremely fluid, as if it was one motion.
I basically clean the wieght, catch it while lowering into a partial front squat then explode out of that into the push-press. then try to control the wieght enough to leave some skin on my shins while letting it down.
This excercise is the most fun I have at the gym (with the exception of adding wieght to any movement)
