I recently switched to a 3 day split and for the first time train chest and back together because I wanted to have a separate arms day (with shoulders). Anybody think this is a good combo? If I do all chest work first I cannot hit back really hard so I do one chest exercise, then back, then chest again etc. Not supersetting, but doing all the sets for a specific exercise and then hitting the other body part.

Thats a good way to do it. But dont be so quick to count out supersets. Try them for a workout...

when working such large amounts of muscle is to consume a simple carb beverage during the workout. It will help you keep the intensity and focus.

I understand time constraints and trying to get it all in during the week. However, if I worked 2 big muscle groups like back and chest, i would suffer one of 2 ways. I wouldn't push hard enough to conserve energy or I would be completely exhausted.
I think a better way would be to work 1 big and 1 smaller muscle group together. Back and bi's and chest and tri's. Another option would be to broaden your outlook. Instead of thinking in terms of workouts in a "week" go to like a 8 day rotation. You can get everything in and workout hard, with ample recovery.

I work lats and some traps with chest as they are recruited in chest pressing type movements anyways.

Lower back is a seperate day.

Yup. I feel chest and back go pretty well together. Been using heavy poundages for both body parts. However, I don't get a good pump, probably because I don't do all chest or back stuff in a row.
