I am currently 3 weeks out from my show as of yesterday-my q to you is can I use Sweet & Low or anyother spices in cooking or will that cause me problems in cutting water...
Also, if anyone can lend me a bit of insight as to sodium depletion and carbing up(for a women)aka, pre show prep, I would really appreciate it! |

I would definitely cut out all "spices," the last week leading up to the show because most of them are just "flavored salt."
My dilemna is this, though...after a show, when you start taking in a normal amount of sodium again, your viens pop out like a motherfucker...knowing this, and knowing many guys who eat some salty, greasy food about an hour before pre-judging, I'm tempted to sodium "deplete," the last week, but "load" right the morning of...I think there were some comments on the other "CONTEST PREP" thread... As far as Sweet 'N Low, I wouldn't think it would have any effect...I've heard of pro's drinking a 12 pack of Diet Coke the day before a show... Now let me ask you all another question-what were you eating 3 weeks out so I can gauge if I am doing this right...also, how close to contest ready did you look 3 weeks out....
This being my first actual BB show I have no clue as to where I should be---I know what others tell me, but I would still like to hear from fellow board members. |

Yes, I do have great people helping me to learn to pose properly & putting a routine together for me-One is a former #2 Mr. Olympia, and the other won the state show here a few years ago....and yes, they are taking into consideration that I am a female...
As far as nutrition & diet, I saw a guy in our gym who does nutrition-diet plans for pre contest about 3 weeks ago, & I was already at 11.8% & 141 lbls---he told me I look great & to keep doing what I was doing but cut out some of my carbs, add more fat(in the form of natural p.b., & he would see me in a few weeks....He has been sick the last week or so, & I am supposed to be meeting with him tomorrow night.....I don't know if I am doing this right but I am pretty cut now-I have abs, cuts in my legs, striations in my chest & shoulders, & you can clearly see my shoulder caps....you can also totally see my hip flexors....I know I am retaining water but I plan on using lasix w/ potassium and they told me to sauna prior to the show---I am 138 and about 9.7% b.f....this is 3 weeks out as of yesterday. I have been told by the ex Mr O to start split sessions of cardio which I have been doing for the last week as opposed to the am only on an empty stomach sessions I was doing before. I am posting up my diet for the last few days so maybe you guys with show experience can critique it. Friday Meal 1---1 scoop whey(its a good quality whey protein) with a spoon of crazy richard natural peanut butter, & a 1/2 cup oats (measured uncooked) with a sweet & low Meal 2---1 scoop whey with 1/2 cup oats with a sweet & low Meal 3---2 Turkey patties with a tad of ketsup, 1/4 cup plain salad Meal 4---Can tuna plain with 1/4 cup of chopped onion-lettuce-carrot combo, 3 spoons of PB Meal 5---2 scoops whey with spoon PB Meal 6---10 oz steamed chicken & broccoli Saturday Meal 1---2 scoops whey with spoon PB Meal 2---4 egg whites(1 yolk), with 1/4 cup lean ground turkey meat, 1/2 cup oats with sweet & low Meal 3---1 scoop of whey with spoon PB Meal 4---2 grilled chicken breasts with 1 yam, 3 glasses unsweetened Iced Tea Meal 5---3 egg whites with 1/4 cup lean ground turkey Today(Sunday) Meal 1---2 scoops whey with 1 spoon PB Meal 2---Turkey patty with yam & 2 spoons PB Meal 3---2 scoop whey Meal 4---2 Grilled Chicken breasts with 1/4 cup broccoli, 2 unsweetend iced teas & I will have 1 more meal before the day is through. They will set up my last week & a half of dieting as far as carb depletion & sodium depletion are concerned....any opinion are appreciated as I haven't ever done BB, just fitness-physique based shows! Thanks in advance! [This message was edited by FitnessChick on 03-18-2001 at 08:51 PM.] |

It sounds to me like you're 100% on track for your competition. You're doing everything I would be doing (except the gear and lasix). Your diet and cardio split look good. When you get the details for you carb/sodium depletion carb loading etc.... let us have a final glance at it to make sure it makes sense. One thing I will mention about carb loading/sodium depletion is that it takes practice to dial it in perfectly. First time around you really just have to do what your coach says, but make sure they're looking at your progress everyday of that last week, and several times on the Friday and Saturday morn.

I am 10 days out today, looking about right for the day. I am 136, 8% bf...the winny & eq are helping maintain my size---I finished my last shot of eq this past saturday, and will be done with the winny this saturday, which will also help me cut some water.
I have been consuming about 2000-2100 cal a day, about 80-90 gms of fat, mostly by the way of natural p.b., about 220 gm protein daily, and about 80 gm of carbs, and every fourth day increasing the carbs to about 150 and lowering the protein to keep the calories even. I have been doing split sessions of cardio and training in the pm. I am cutting the pb today & adding extra flax oil to compensate. I am increasing the carbs slightly for the next few days on recommendation of my nutrition advisor to make my body respond better to my low carbing. On Sunday PM, Mon, Tues, and Wed I will cut my carbs to broccoli, getting about 50-60 gms just form that. I will keep my protein up, getting it from chicken, tuna, and eggwhites. Then Wed pm, Thurs, & Fri I will be carbing up. I decided not to switch to distilled as I will be using diuretics & need the minerals. Wed & Thurs I will be cutting the sodium... Friday I will take in sodium, but no water. I will be hitting the sauna friday also. And Saturday, God willing, I will be victorious! |

Thanks for the update. I was just wondering how you're FEELING at this stage, as opposed to how you look. And if you're feeling so bad you wanna bite my head off for asking, then I understand completely. But if you can find the time and energy it would be great if you could give us some insight into how it feels so close to precompetition. Good luck and have a great experience no matter what.

FC - I don't know if you realize what a huge inspiration that you as well as some of the other lady vets are for those of us who are at the beginning of our journey. I think it is pretty safe to say that you have a whole board pulling for you!

Your updates sound like you are right on target! I have done three shows and what I would do the last week besides tan-train-cook-and practice my routine --is schedule my manicure-pedicure-massage--and go make up shopping. Might sound a bit silly--but it kept my mind off other things and lipstick always looks better when you are below 10 percent bodyfat

Th only way I see her not placing 1st is if she goes out on stage and has a brain fart or passes out.
This is a very large local event but during our preparation we have been comparing her to NPC USA and JR USA contestants her size, symetry, seperation and proportion on on par with any national competitor and better than most (and this is coming from 3 IFBB judges)plus she got a purrty face . Her only weak point is the muscular maturity that time develops and learning the supreme confidence it takes to win. I think this is something every one of you ladies should try to do at least once in your lives, the things you will learn about your body and your character are invaluable. IG |

Hmmm, how do I feel......well, I haven't been my normal sweet self, to say the least....It fluctuates....I can definitly say that my energy is seriously lagging, as well as my endurance & strength. I am using clen which isn't giving me the burst it normally does, and even the EQ & winny aren't helping keep my strength up to par. Granted I am not weak, but I am not where I was a few weeks ago. I crave everything under the sun. I don't think I have ever craved half the things I do now. I actually started druling over the smell of a tuna sub yesterday....yes i like tuna, but I mean literally salivating....uggghh!
I really do feel it is all worth it though. I haven't ever looked this good in my life. My waist shrunk significantly, my abs are deeply etched, veins all through my stomach, some already in my quads, my calves have visible splits....it goes on & on....I am always naturally lean, but now all the little things are falling into place. My posing suit c/o CeeJay, seamstress to the fitness stars, should arrive on the first. I went with royal blue for the prejudging---for those of you who don't know, for the prejudging, you need a basic solid lycra suit. For the PM show, you can more or less do whatever you want. i went with a pink hologram material dressed up with rhinestones. I will be getting my hair & nails done too! I need a little pampering! IG has been good----he is semi-dieting with me----not quite as strict as me, but his sacrifices are making my miserable diet a whole lot easier...not to mention the 2 boxes of entamins chocolate glazed doughnuts & 2 pkgs of frozen kitkats waiting in my freezer for me after the show ..... |
