I seem to be at a stand still and can't seem to change up my work-out enough to make a difference.
Monster, any possibility that I be your guinea pig? I need all new work-outs and splits. |

Oh I have ideas that make Dr. Frankenstien look conventional.
Basically, long story short, most people benefit from doing the complete opposite of what theyve been doing. I'll see people who've been doing (for instance) 6-8 reps per set for years. They usually benefit from a change in rep range, I still like at least one set of low reps (for strength purposes, and to make sure ALL muscle fibers get stimulated). Something like a set of 10 a set of 8 a set of 6 and then a light set of 15 to 20. I know it may sound strange, but it hits every fiber, from size to strength and still gives you a pump. Training split can be a culprit too. The "natural" magazines have everyone fooled into thinking one body part once a week is a good idea. Its crap. We can (even natural) take more than that. I like to mix it up and hit everything twice a week... not exactly the same workout twice, but still twice a week. My second day on I'll do legs (and lower back, but thats neither here nor there) and it'll consist of say: *deadlifts *leg press(or hack squats depending on whats open) *leg extensions *leg curls Its a sort of "auxilliary" leg day, but a killer none the less. I'll have a day off after the 2nd day, then come back for my 3rd, and on my 4th day its legs again, but this time: *squats (free squats - very heavy) *stiff leg deadlift *-some other back stuff... it doesnt have to do with legs so I wont put it in here- But basiaclly I hit my legs twice a week but in a different manner on each day. Ive never been sore on the coming leg day from the previous one, and Ive had great results. My whole split is a little "unconventional", but everyone whos used it has got great results from it. Actually, I think its "conventional" in terms of kinesiology and physiology! It just seems weird to us after being fed the bodybuilding magazine "work out" programs for so long. ----------------------- "Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy" "You cant help my isolation, you cant help the hate that it brings. I was at a plateau, well as much as you can be while on gear, about 5 weeks ago and I started training with the 5 X 5 routine that was posted on the Anabolic board. One week on 5 X 5 and the next my normal sets and reps and that worked out great. I didn't have to change what I did just how I did it.

Hmmm - yes key to breaking any stall is to totally change things in any area of life really. If you've been working pyramid style reverse the pyramid...if you've been working in a certain rep range, increase or decrease the load and change reps accordingly...if you've been working heavy every week, work every other week or every third week light and higher reps...if you've been working one body part one time a week change it up as Monster suggests...if you haven't taken a break in a while take a week or two off...use supersets and drop sets instead of straight sets...go outside at a track and do drills/plyometrics and run the bleachers for a couple of weeks and then come back to the weights...and remember...if you aren't EATING, you won't progress!

I think everyone is right, although I'm not sure what the 5 x 5 routine is but I'll get with Ulter on that.
Monster, I don't think I am traineing enough. Time is always a factor. I do train very hard, but I think I should do a body part twice a week, especially while "on". I'd like to send you my splits and have you treek them. I'll get you that shirt you want......... I Promise!! |
