Default ok it's offical this sucks

Ok i just strolled in from my morning work out and i am so pissed. I hurt my back many years ago, i hasn't bothered me for ages until 3 weeks ago. i hurt getting something out of the car, go figure right. well the pain has been pretty unbearable, so i haven't done legs since i got hurt. (It's my lower back) I figured i'd give it the old college try today and see how it went. OUCH is all i can say to describe this. the only thing i could handle were leg extensions. no squats, no dead lifts (not a snoballs chance in hell on those) not even the leg press. I could bearly do abs the other day. i felt like crying it hurt so bad. so i guess i stick to upper body and that hour of cardio (yes i did that this morning thanks lobo! LOL) thanks for listening I just needed to bitch to people who actually might give a shit.

if anybody has any ideas about working around this i would be more than happy to listen to them.

Have you gone to the Doc about it? What about seeing a chiropractor? A good one can work wonders depending on what the problem is.

i didn't go this time. the last few times this happened i went and not one doc had an actual reason for my pain. i actually had some S.O.B tell me in was in my head. well i wanted to punch him in his head. I got every answer from compressed vertabre to pinched nerves to possible slipped discs. I hate it. I'm only 25 and i am struggling to get up from a sitting position like an 80 yr old woman. hell i think my grandma can move faster than me right now!i had my other doc refill my script for anti-inflammatories and pain killers. neither have helped. I had to have my husband move the computer so i can do work on it standing up or on the bar stool. I have to be the only person who has a computer on the bar in the house.(yes i have a 7 ft bar in the house equippied with a keg and tap. and i wonder why my house is always full of people!lol)

I would check around for a good chiropractor. There are two kinds, the ones that will half fix you and keep you coming back for the rest of your life and the ones that just fix you. The two times I used one I told them up front that I did not have the time or the money to keep coming back and coming back and two visits and I was no longer in pain.

You need to get an MRI. IT's the only way to see what is going on. The docs will all say it's not required... just keep on their asses. The MRi will be able to show you what has been done. Did they even take any xrays?!?!?! That's at least a min to see if the spine is messed.

Yeah Lobo said it before I did... MRI!!! I work in xray and definitely agree, MRI is what WILL tell you exactly what is wrong bc it shows everything, ligaments, tendons, soft tissue, bones, whatever. Have you had it done? Did you go to a neurosurgeon or just your family dr? If only family doc, you need to get referred to a neuro guy. FOR SURE!!

Let us know!

they did some xrays but really didn't see anything so he says. he's a real prick though. I am going to hjave to do something because this is getting worse and worse. the last time i hurt it the pain went away well at least to were it was almost unnoticable.but this is BAD. i usually don't complain about physcial pain but i am useless as tits on a bull these days.I can't bend lift or even sit for long periods of time. today i had a meeting and i thought i was gonna scream if i didn't get up and move around. I'll keep you all posted. thanks

You and me both Blue - I hurt my back somehow last week...I took this week totally off. I rarely have any sort of back problems so this is really bad for me. Everything hurts...

I'm icing and gentle stretching which helps keep it less stiff.

Default no working around it

Get an evaluation and MRI. Trying to work around something like that is foolish, you could be making matters worse, something that could haunt you forever.

Default Been thar, done that!!

Just went thru another lower back injury. I was up, screaming all night. When the muscle was damaged, it swelled and pressed on the nerve. I couldn't stand, sit, lay down...........
Went to an Industrial health place and was checked out by the Doc, the Physical therapist and the Physician's asst.
When they realozed i was in good shape and was not trying to get released from work they treated me Very Well. The physical therapist was the best. He said that Body Builders do not stretch enough. He said if Muscle and Fitness put in a tenth of the article's on stretching as they do on pics that nobody will ever look like, ther would be alot less injuries.
Said he sees these type of lower back injuries All the time in BB's. Has me doing alot of back extension type stretching, plus the NFL ab work out which is approved for the lower back.
So far, it's working.
My chiro actually hurt me and made it worse the last time I did this. The stretching is helping alot more

Blue - if the doctor doesn't find anything in particular, then you might want to consider "rolfing". I recommend it to anyone who has any kind of chronic pain.

It's a special type of massage therapy. I did a series last year and it has made a HUGE difference. (It's usually 10 sessions spaced out every 2 weeks.) I no longer have the assorted aches and pains I used to. It's all about structural alignment. The therapist took before and after pictures, and I really could see a difference in how I carried myself. I knew I could feel the difference, but seeing it was amazing.

FF if its the same kind of rolfing that they used to do to us prior to stretching in martial arts classes JESUS CHRIST THAT HURTS!!!!!!!! What they do is take the muscle at each end and deep massage it toward the middle pressing it together the whole time - is that right????? It works but what torture!!!

I have another question. if for the time being i back off lifting should i still do cardio? i have to do something otherwise i feel like i'll get really fat again. I know it's just a mental thing but i can't not do anything. It will drive me insane. I hate to do cardio but i thought of biking (well maybe not it might be a killer on my back), or swimming or something just to keep going. I am afraid if i stop i will never go back and i will fall off the wagon so to speak.it took me a long time to finally get to this point. just to keep motivated and learning all the things i have was tough. I can't and won't let myself slide back into those old habits and that rut i was in all that time. I need to do something. would cardio eat all the muscle i have gained? i'm not talking about excesive cardio just enough to keep me on track.

I can't even play soft ball this year!! i'd really mess something up now if i tried to bat!maybe i'll get in this year before the season is up. otherwise i guess i'll just go to the games and watch.

Swimming would probably be the best all-around exercise for you...It works all the muscles in your body and you can use paddles on your hands to increase resistance say for doing fly type exercises using just water resistance... Try to get a PT to give you water exercises there are bunch!!
