i was reading the anabolic board and saw deca for joint pain. Now i have heard of this before, but my question is this, have any women here taken it for theraputic purposes only. and if so how much, and did it work? I read that the theraputic dosage was 50mg per week but i wasn't sure if that was just for men or for women too.

The therapeutic dose for women is the benchmark used for men actually. 50mg/wk

Now lets say you were taking this theraputic dose, would it be safe to do an actual cycle on top of it? maybe an anavar cycle or something like that.

ok wait... i read on a medical website, i think medscape, that the theraputic dosage for joint pain of nandrolone is 25-50mgs every 2-3 weeks!!!! If a woman is going to take 50mgs per week, that IS A CYCLE basically just in itself!!!! You WILL get sides but omg, you will definitely get great muscle gains.

The 50mgs was my first cycle but I did it every 5 days. For me, I put on 25 lbs of LBM in 7 weeks. I'd recommend it but make sure you're watching sides.

As for the joint pain, I wish I could stay on deca year round because when I'm on it my ankle (which I've had 5 surgeries on) feels WONDERFUL, NO PAIN, NO ACHES, NOTHING! Its a life saver because nothing else helps it.

see good thing i asked!! LOL
I have severe back pain and i was hoping that i could find something that would help. i am supposed to go back to work soon and i don't think i can do it if i have this pain all the time. my job is a bit to physcial for that.
hell maybe thats a good excuse not to have to go back to work! I am having a hard time with the idea of it anyway. i'm supposed to work 30 hours a week on the overnight shift. I'm cranky and sleep deprived as it is. this is not going to be good if the pain in my back gets any worse. /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Women can stay on for a very long time with little to no negatives.... just keep the dose at low level....

AJ is correct, the more recent studies use 50mg every 2-3 weeks over a one to two year period. So 50mg/wk would be cycle type dosing. If your pain is vertebral then it will help alleviate the pain.

so 50mg every 3 weeks is about right?? at this point i'm willing to do just about anything to get rid of the pain. It hasn't bothered me for quite some time and then a couple of weeks ago i hurt it getting something out of the car. and ever since then it's just barely tolerable. and i have an extremly high tolerance to pain but this sucks.

Here are some studies that make me tend to believe you will feel better using 50mg every three weeks. Granted your pain is not due to osteoporosis but then neither is mine and it works miracles for me.

Nandrolone decanoate: pharmacological properties and therapeutic use in osteoporosis.

Geusens P.

Arthritis and Metabolic Bone Disease Research Unit, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Pellenberg, Belgium.

The therapeutic profile on bone of nandrolone decanoate is that of inhibitor of bone resorption with temporary increase in bone formation, followed by an absence of suppression of bone formation, indicating uncoupling of bone resorption and formation. This results is an increase in bone mineral content at the proximal and distal radius, and in some patients at the lumbar spine. Furthermore, nandrolone decanoate increases calcium balance and muscle mass, diminishes vertebral pain and increases the mobility of the spine.

Effect of nandrolone decanoate and 1-alpha-hydroxy-calciferol on patients with vertebral osteoporotic collapse. A double-blind clinical trial.

Lyritis GP, Androulakis C, Magiasis B, Charalambaki Z, Tsakalakos N.

Laboratory for the Research of Musculoskeletal System Th Garofalidis, University of Athens, Faculty of Medicine, KAT Hospital, Kifissia, Greece.

Eighty-eight postmenopausal women with at least one vertebral collapse were randomly assigned to two groups of 44 patients each. All patients were treated for a period of 12 months with 50 mg of nandrolone decanoate every 3 weeks or 1 microgram of 1-alpha-hydroxy-calciferol daily. Both groups received an identical placebo of the inactive drug. Pain intensity was significantly decreased in the nandrolone group and mobility was improved. Patients treated with vitamin D metabolite had also a beneficial but less obvious clinical result. Bone mineral measurements showed an increase of 5% in the nandrolone decanoate group, but a 2.5% decrease in the vitamin D metabolite group. Biochemical results showed a significant hypercalciuric effect of vitamin D metabolite, while nandrolone decanoate caused a reduction in calcium/creatinine excretion. No difference in serum lipids was found during the annual treatment in both groups. It is concluded that nandrolone decanoate has a beneficial effect in clinical symptoms, bone mineral density and biochemical parameters in patients with established osteoporotic vertebral fractures.

Effects of nandrolone decanoate on bone mass in established osteoporosis.

Passeri M, Pedrazzoni M, Pioli G, Butturini L, Ruys AH, Cortenraad MG.

Clinica Medica Generale e Terapia Medica, University of Parma, Italy.

A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study was conducted in 46 postmenopausal women with established osteoporosis in order to assess the long-term effects of nandrolone decanoate on the bone mineral density (BMD) of the lumbar vertebrae and of the distal third of the radius and on the biochemical markers of bone turnover. The patients received intramuscular injections of placebo or 50 mg nandrolone decanoate every 3 weeks for 18 months. Thirty-two of the initial 46 patients completed 1 year of study and 25 completed the whole study period of 18 months. Overall, vertebral BMD increased by 2.9% in the nandrolone decanoate group and fell by 2.3% in the placebo group. Radial BMD showed a slight but transient improvement, with a subsequent return to basal levels in the nandrolone decanoate group, whereas there was a progressive decrease in the placebo group. Patients treated with nandrolone decanoate also complained less of bone pain. Urinary hydroxyproline decreased significantly in treated patients, whereas osteocalcin tended to increase, but the change was not significant. HDL cholesterol concentrations decreased only slightly and haemoglobin increased significantly in the nandrolone decanoate group. Two patients treated with nandrolone decanoate withdrew from the study because of hirsutism and hoarseness. The results indicate that nandrolone decanoate exerts positive effects on vertebral BMD and on bone pain in patients with established postmenopausal osteoporosis.

OK, let me tell you from my experience. Definitely go on the deca if you dont have to worry about any type of drug testing bc you know it can stay in your system for up to 18 months. Like I said earlier I've had 5 ankle surgeries and basically have no other options because my next step is either an ankle fusion or ankle replacement, which because I'm 21, NEITHER are an option. I've gone the route of Vioxx, Celebrex, Naprosin, whatever... NONE WORKED for me at all because my pain was just so incredibly bad. Most of the time it got so bad that my ankle would ache so much and just throb w/ pain that I felt like I was going to throw up because it was unbearable at times.

When I started the Deca, it REALLY made an amazing difference. No pain or anything, great joint range of motion too! It took about 2 weeks for me to really start feeling the benefits of it, so DO IT. I'm telling you. You won't regret it. Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Just gotta put in my two cents worth for cowgirl. At 50mg per week of Nandrolone most postmenopausal women showed measurable signs of virilization (mainly deepening of voice and increased facial hair) over 3-6 months of treatment (I don't know how these studies may relate to pre-menopausal women). Please don't consider 50mg per week to be a "safe" dose. If you're taking it for "therapuetic purposes" only, then don't go over 50mg every 2-3 weeks. I don't know if at this low dose you should expect LBM gains or not.

I have decided on 50mg every 3 weeks. I'll see how it goes. I'm only using it to alleviate the pain in my back. I don't think i can handle work if i have this pain all the time. I would sell my soul at this point if it would allow me to function like a normal person. I haven't even been able to get a straight answer on what is causing this pain. No dr has been able to come up with a conclusive reason why i have this pain. so i seem to be on my own. all the main stream meds are either not working or just masking the pain <like pain killers>. so i will definatly keep you up to date on the progress. thank you all for your help. /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
