View Full Version : DW's fat to fit log

Well, I guess I'll be the first to start a new log. Sucks, but nothing can be done.
My goals are to lose bodyfat while building muscle. I have decided to start running again, will start tomorrow morning. I hate starting out in running. Takes so long to build up to where you can run a decent amount of time and distance. I am one of those people that must see results like, right NOW or else it isn't worth it. I am working on that. I plan to weight train 6 days a week, eat clean, and do about 45mins of cardio a day. Hopefully that will get be back on track. I have been doing good the last three weeks, have been going to the gym almost every night and lifting hard. I am ready to get back in shape. I don't really have any stats, haven't taken measurements yet or pictures. I will soon but won't post the pics for a while yet. Will wait until I have something to compare them to once I lose some weight.

Alright, hun, sounds like a LOT of goals there!

You lift 6 days a week?! EEK! Maybe we can try to even out some of your workouts if you can. Do you still work in a gym? I can see how tempting it would be to just LEAVE IT ALONE for a day :) But it's necessary.

Especially with your running, if you do cardio and lifting on the same day, if you lift first, there will be little glycogen stores left to fuel your run -- so you won't go the distance you like... and if you run first and then lift... same thing. There won't be enough glycogen stores to fuel your lifts enough so you could make real strength gains.

What about M/W/F Run and Tu/Th/Sat lift? Sundays off? You can still do SOME running on lifiting days, but you'd do it after you lift and it'd be short.

Talk to GymGirl or Tweak. They are good with the running information. :)

Hiya DW!

and.... IN!:)

I love running, set short goals every week. I am no way as fantastic as GG but I find small goals make me work harder, whether it be cals burned or distance run, or the amount of time running each time.

For me I really find HIIT, really help with building endurance and speed.

GG was saying the other day to Tweak that she adds 10% to her run distance per week. This was her key to adding distance to her runs withouth demanding too much of her body too soon. :)

Well, I dragged my lazy ass out of bed this morning and once I remembered my name I jumped on the treadmill. I ran for 1 minute, walked for 2. I did this for 30 minutes. Not too bad for first starting out. I think I will do that for a week then go up to running two minutes and increase as needed. Have to be careful since I had a stress fracture in the foot, gotta go slow.

I didn't do any cardio tonight since I ran this morning, I was pressed for time anyway. I would like to run in the morning and do the bike or stairclimber at night for 30mins. I will have to make sure I do that tomorrow night.

Ended up taking today off too. My beagle hurt herself somehow, spent most of the night yelping in pain every time she moved. So, I packed her in the car and took her to the vet. Somehow she did something to her neck. She is better this afternoon with muscle relaxers and steroid treatments. I hate to see her in pain, she is like my little kid! I left her for a couple of hours to go to the gym. Got my chest workout in. Not posting numbers because they are embarassing, my chest is SOOOOO weak. I really need to work on that. I was thinking of training it twice a week to see if that makes a difference or not. I have to do something, it is pathetic! Didn't get a chance to run last night with the beagle being hurt and everything, will do so tonight and tomorrow morning.

The pup is feeling much better now. She is moving around without yelping. I am glad she is doing better. She rolled over for me to pet her belly this morning, which tells me she is doing much better this morning. Just a few more days on the steroids and she will be back to normal!

85x2x10
95x2x8

DB incline chest press

I don't really want to screw up any progress I have made by eating junk. I work to hard to screw it up! The beagle is doing much better. Today I did my back. I must make it a point to train my forearms more, they are hindering my workouts I have found. I know I could have done more weight, but my forearms tired before I could get to my 10th rep on a set. I will have to train them more often and with more intensity.
(weight, sets, reps)

Seated cable row
150x3x10

Lat Pulldown, wide grip
85x3x10

Lat pulldown, close & reverse grip
85x3x10

BB bent over row, reverse grip
55x3x10

Single are row
40x3x10

Cardio
30 minutes stationary bike

I have to build up my forearms before trying the pendlay rows. They look interesting but know I will be limited. Tomorrow is leg day, my favorite!

I see you are working hard in here!

You can pick up a lot of accessory forearm work by the following: After your heavier working sets of anything...DB flat bench, lunges, etc hold the DB's, or BB on deads or shrugs, till your forearms are on fire and you wanna cry for :help:

Time under tension will greatly improve your endurance. You can also go grab a set of DB that is say 20# more than what you use for DB shrugs and just hold them for 30 seconds or whatever it takes to make you think you can't get them back to the rack. That will get your body used to holding the higher weight.

Standing calf raise

Seated calf raise
100x4x15

Leg extension

How's the diet doing?

Glad you made it! Diet is going good, no cheats in a long time. I used to reserve Saturday for cheats but haven't done that in weeks. Protein intake is high, carbs are at about 30% with fats around 20%.

I am really sick of winter and wish it would go away! Didn't get to the gym last night because of the weather. Just finished snow blowing my driveway so that should count for something! Going to the gym tonight, bi's and tri's tonight.

I took the last couple of days off. Didn't mean to take Friday off but didn't have a choice due to the weather. Last night I went to a concert in Allentown Pa. Had a great time, saw Ill Nino, they rock! Tomorrow I am back on track with shoulders.

I saw the endocronologist the other day. He ordered more blood work. Got a call from him on Friday and he stated that my TSH levels were still 0.01 (very low still indicating a hyperthyroid) but everything else was normal. He decided to repeat the blood work again in two months and I will see him in May.

Ok, so here's my chest workout, sad as it may be.
(weight, sets, reps
BB bench press
85x2x10
95x2x8

DB incline chest press
25'sx3x10

Butterfly machine
50x3x10

chest press machine
70x3x10

I totally agree with the other posters that those are quite respectable numbers. :) One idea, if you are unhappy with your poundages, you might dial back on the number of exercises you're doing for pecs. It's all about overcompensation from one workout to the next. Could be you'd gain more from a bit less.

You can actually use the flat BB bench to really activate the pecs by waiting until about the last two anticipated reps of a given set and then trying to pull your hands towards one another on the negative phase. Your hands shouldn't actually move, but just trying to move them will activate the bejesus out of your pecs. I call them Flying Motion Reps. Normal up, Flying down. This style activates much more of the pec and can allow you to drop some exercises if you'd like.

Feeling much better today. Went to the gym and did back, nothing great, just a light workout to get back into the swing of things since taking a week off from being sick. Tomorrow I will start back into cardio.

Well I am going to try and do this again. I got off track for a bit. My aunt was disgnosed with cancer so I have spent a lot of time with her and helping her. Which meant a lot of flying from Pennsylvania to Texas and back again. She passed away July 3rd and I need to get back to working out to get my mind off of things. Wish me luck!
