14 weeks out as of yesterday. Took starting point measurements and pics today:
weight 219 (w/ hat, shorts, shoes, and shirt)
chest 46"
waist 36"
hips 40"
arm 17.25"
upper quad 25"
lower quad 22.5"
calves 17"
Caliper measurements are to be published.
Diet starts on thursday, modifications started today. I can't just jump into this type of dieting...my body will need the 4 days to adjust to the foods and quantities.
Supplements and hormones started today. See the corresponding threads for those plans. I will post the front and rear double bicep pose from today.

16 Weeks out
Starting the diet full speed today; the last week was an experimentation week with diet foods and supplements. I really took the last 3 days to figure out what foods were best and what supplements I can take in conjunction with each other, both with food and without. I seem to get light-headed with more than 2 green tea caps at once, so that's my limit, for now.
218.4 yesterday. This is a starting point for scale reading. I will not weigh myself very often, as bodyweight is not important to me at all this year. I am dieting to wherever my body looks the best.
Took pics today again. I'll post them up again shortly.

4 out of 6 meals done for the first precontest day. I've had an insanely full stomach all day. Did quads and low back today, successful with 315 for 10 deep reps, and then again for 6! Not bad considering I couldn't squat 135 about 1 month ago! It didn't affect my hernia one bit...but the leg extensions did a little.

Florida just posted up their first show of the year at the NPC webpage...looks like there is one show, a National Qualifier, on the 12th of March. I will be 10 weeks out from this show on Saturday, the first of the year. This will give 5 weeks to prep, if I qualify, for the Jr. USA's in South Carolina, and if I don't, I will most likely do the Gold Cup in North Carolina on May 7. There is also a show in South Carolina the following weekend (May 14).

My updated contest prep daily schedule looks like this:
5:00 morning supps (Lrex, GT, ALCAR, Aromasin, Nolva, Naproxen, Trex)
5:30 15 eggwhites, 1 yolk, 1/2 cup oats w/added psyllium husks
6:30 cardio: 30 min treadmill
8:30 8 oz chicken breast
12:00 8 oz chicken breast, green peas
3:00 8 oz chicken breast, corn
5:00 workout
6:00 10 oz beef, corn
9:00 8 oz chicken breast, green beans
I've been averaging 400-450 grams of protein, 150-180 grams of carbs, and 40-50 grams of fat per day. This is my second week coming to a close. The fibrous carb diet begins in 2 weeks, where I will substitute corn and peas with salads and california mix (broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots).
Mr. B, what do ya think?

This week I averaged 450 grams of protein and 150 grams of carbs a day...fats are averaging 50 grams per day.
I added Udo's Flax oil for the EFAs...I use 1/2 tsp per day in the morning, which equates to 7 grams of EFAs.
Added chaste berry extract at 450 mg before bed, to suppress any possible abundance of prolactin.
Also added more vitamins and minerals: MSM, Glucosamine/Chondroitin, garlic oil, B-6, potassium, and vit. A. Should I start adding extra vit. E?
All in all, things are going smoothly. Not much has changed in scale readings, but this is supposed to happen. There is no greater feeling in this lifestyle than gaining muscle and losing fat simultaneously!

Delts and calves today. I am dropping the rest-pause sets from my routine due to the limited carbs I'm taking in. I simply cannot sustain my mass with that much muscular microtrauma going on. With that in mind, I will move to training with straight sets only, just stopping short of failure. I know this worked in the past for me, and it should work well again this time.
seated lateral raises 60's x12, 60's x10
1-arm angled raises 50's x15, 50's x10
rear laterals 45'S x20, x15
calves 2 sets of 20 reps, light, slow, and controlled.

Back on track today. I started combining green beans with a starchy veggie for each meal, along with the staple chicken breast. The calories will go up this way, but it's worth it because green beans take so much to digest anyhow...I figure it's a worthwhile addition, and it will possibly keep me full for a longer period. I'm starting to get hungrier between meals, and Thermorexin isn't curbing it.

And I'm not just blowing smoke either PA...you REALLY look great! Telling you something nice just for the sake of it does not help you in the end. Constructive criticism can be tough, but is what is truly needed to help set someone in the right direction. Thanks, CG. It's actually this show and then the Jr. USAs on April 16th if I can make top two (qualifying placing). If not, I'm still doing the Atlanta City Championships on April 16th, same day as the Jr. USAs. So either way you slice it, I've got 8 weeks, then another 4. After whichever April 16th show I do, I'm most likely going back to offseason.

bis and abs today...
I was feeling drained as hell after working out in the morning and cardio immediately after. I've been on low carbs since tuesday and I don't remember low carb days being this difficult to cope with. I am listless, sapped of any strength. When I sit down, it takes a bit more energy to get out of the chair than before. Tomorrow is a high carb day (300 grams), thank the lord!

DAMN...talk about positive feedback you guys! I thank you all for your motivating posts.
Dman, as of 10 weeks out, I have been carb cycling. The first 3 weeks was used to "get into the diet groove", so to speak. Here is my diet on a typical low carb day:
#1
15 eggwhites, 1 yolk
1/2 cup oats
#2 (post workout)
1 can sweet corn
8 oz chicken breast
#3
1 can green beans
8 oz chicken breast
#4
1 can sweet peas
8 oz chicken breast
#5
1 can green beans
8 oz chicken breast
#6
1 can mixed veggies
8 oz chicken breast or round steak
#7
1 can green beans
8 oz chicken
Average is about 450 grams of protein per day, 170 grams of carbs on low carb days, and 300 grams of carbs on high carb days. For some reason, my body is craving and functioning better on slightly higher carbs this year. My 170 gram carb days feel more like less than 50...but maybe that's because I haven't dieted since 2000. I am doing 2 high carb days per week, last week I had 3, and Sunday was a high carb, very low fat cheat day. I took in 525 grams of carbs yesterday, from fat free cookies, sushi, and sweet potatoes...and this morning I weighed in at the same weight as I did the day before, 214.
I upped my meals by one, added 20 min of cardio after each workout (now up to 50 min cardio per day), and added 1 mg/day ketotifen (thanks to SDRaver) at the 8 weeks out mark. Evidently my body has changed over the past 5 years and is reacting vastly differently (different good) to dieting than it did in the past.
Thanks again you guys, for reading my ramblings and supporting me in my quest for stage glory http://anabolicfitness.infopop.net/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You're the best support group anyone could have online, and I consider myself very lucky to have you guys here at AF. Today is tris, hams, and lower back. I'm feeling a bit worn down today, probably because of the low carb days yesterday and the day before. This year is definitely different when it concerns carb amounts. Each time I try to get my carbs below 150 for a day, I start really feeling shitty. So today I'm going about 300 grams and keeping my protein at 400. It will positively affect my energy levels better than 150-170, and I don't believe I have to worry about underdieting at this point.

Another thing of note: I dropped the hot sauce from the meals. It was starting to hurt my stomach lining and generally make me feel bad. No room for that right now. I increased the amount of water consumed by about 1 gallon more, pushing it past 2 per day easily. I know this will have a positive impact on my physique. I have not been drinking enough water.

Weight today before AM training: 213.4.
I'm weighing myself several times weekly now, not because I obsess over how weight loss relates to fatloss, but rather how it may affect MUSCLE loss. I am ditching half of my cardio from now on because I'm getting in shape at a tremendous rate. 11 days ago I was 217...too fast for my bodyfat level right now.
I am also eating way more carbs from now till saturday, and will monitor how it affects my appearance. I was looking like a stick figure in the gym this morning, and energy levels are suffering just slightly. Since I am going for the Jr. USAs ultimately, I CANNOT afford to lose any muscle whatsoever.
Eating this many carbs is awesome for morale! http://www.anabolicfitness.net/smileys/banana.gif

Thanks, Gopro! I'm really genetically blessed, that's for sure. Pharm Queen and I are really looking forward to potentially meeting you next month.
I've made some totally drastic changes in what I'm doing. I fugure that since things are working too quickly as it is, I will be flat and stringy if I keep things the same. Here are my changes at 5 weeks out:
-dropped all cardio
-added intense posing practices EOD
-increased carbs to fluctuate between 230-300 grams per day, up from 150-250
-maintain protein at 400 grams per day
-tanning sessions EOD, alternate with pose practices
-*added 80 mcg T3, putting it to 100 mg/day*
*note*...I know what I've said about T3 in the past, and many of you have read those posts. I've changed my thinking about T3...the last time I was on this dosage I lost a bit of mass, because I was doing 2 hours a day of cardio and was not using any AAS during the last month of contest prep. I believe that as long as I maintain my calories at 3400+/day and drop all cardio, I can come in fuller and way sharper than I did in March of 2000. I'm always flexible with my contest prep, so I will change things if I'm not getting the desired results by 3 weeks out, which is highly doubtful. Not doing cardio is the best thing I've done for my energy levels during precontest time...this time I actually have energy to get off the recliner and practice my posing!

I still have it in my head that no cardio is bad, but I'm going to prove my brain wrong. That was my biggest downfall back when i did contests in the mid-90's. I was always too fat when I started and always tried to do way too much too fast, all thanks to harsh dieting and 2+ hours on stationary bikes. I'm so glad I've outgrown that. I am 207.4 today, hopefully everything just hardens up and I stay the same weight until the last week's deplete/load.

Worked hams today, first time in about 3 weeks doing straight legged deads. Hit 315 for 15 reps, and I was surprised at how easy it was. Decided not to push my luck with another set or more weight, because my hams have been bothersome during the last 3 weeks (hence the reason I stayed away from this exercise). I'm happy to be doing this exercise again, and expect to be totally sore tomorrow, especially after today's posing practice.
BTW, I wasn't sore at all after Monday's posing practice, which was surprising...I did a solid 45 minutes of mandatories and really spent myself. My next task will be putting together my routine.

Well PA, I'm very far behind in responses but your progress has been phenomenal. You're leaning and tightening nicely and your not lacking size.
Great shape, good separation (as it comes) and, as you know, fantastic genetics!
PA, we follow different approaches but maybe some of these will help with hunger/cravings... these are some of the tricks we use to keep away hunger/cravings:
- sugarless gum... lots of it. If I get a craving for something sweet, I eat some gum.
- diet soda... I drink tons both on and off season. WAAAY more on-diet.
- sugarless jello. We always have lots made up in the fridge. It also works wonders on a sweets craving. Sometimes we mix a cup of pop with the jello in place of a cup of water... like diet Dr. Pepper or the Clear fruit sodas.
- pancakes -- I mix my egg whites and oats in the blender (on high for a good couple mins) and it makes a pancake batter. Beats scrambled egg whites any day (Gopro taught me this).
- I spread the meals across the day so that I'm always pretty full. It's actually a lot of food.
- (** PA, Try this**) At night, I like to have a massive salad. I use tons of fresh veggies and it fills a large popcorn bowl (i.e. "Jethro Bowl" of salad). This stuffs me full. I use MCT oil, sugar twin (brown and white) and some garlic powder, onion powder, basil, oregano and vinegar... makes a nice dressing that's a bit like italian dressing.
- water, I drink a lot of water it helps me to feel full
- thermogenics and caffiene in the morning gets my butt moving, LOL.
- MCT oil works great on popcorn as a greasy, butter-like flavoring... I also sprinkle on the artificial sweeteners.
- teas... flavored teas, black tea, regular and, as you know, green tea. For example, use English Toffee flavored tea as your oatmeal water... OMG, I'm telling you... like wherther's, especially when you're depleted.
Anyway, I'm sure you're well aware of most of the above, but it may help others.
PA, you're going to kick ass so hard this year you'll be leaving footprints!

LOL...thanks for the comments, guys!
Had to go to a funeral this weekend but stayed on track with diet stuff. We just got back and ended up driving pretty much all day yesterday and today. I'm going off of my diet tomorrow morning on purpose. I feel flatter than a pancake (oh, pancakes sound good...) and need the regeneration of high carbs. I did a posing practice session when we got back here and couldn't hold my poses for very long.
More to come tomorrow. I'll give you guys the full run-down of how the cheat goes tomorrow morning. For now I'm off to BED.
Thanks again for the continued support, brothers.

Gopro, the posing practice is paying off then I suppose! I've been doing 5 hard sets of 1/4 turns and mandatories every other day since dropping my cardio, and like I said before, it's the way to go to tighten up and increase your metabolism. Cardio is forever gone from my precontest phases. Pose practice serves dual purposes, metabolism and getting dialed into the onstage movements. I know you already know and live it gopro, but posing aesthetically looks effortless but takes tons of practice!

3 weeks out~
My training has gone from 6 days/week to 4 days/week. I combined quads and hams on one day, tris on delt day, and bis on back day. Chest/calves day is unchanged. The added time off from the gym during these last 2 weeks of training before the week of the show will allow me some added recovery time and filling out time. I've also decreased my training volume a bit further to 2-3 sets per bodypart and put 100% mental concentration into the intensity of each one of my sets.
Training has been going very well. I am happy to report a strength gain in my SLDL from 15 reps to 20 reps yesterday at 315 lbs. It's getting easier to injure myself as well. I am going very slowly with each rep so as to prevent this from happening.
Took a 3-point caliper bodyfat test this morning, abdominal skinfold was 7 mm, chest was 2 mm and thigh was 3 mm. The calculator spit out 3.2%, which I'm guessing is more like 5-6%. I weighed in at 214.6 today.
I am being told that I'm 1 week out conditioning-wise but I really can't tell anymore. I am putting faith in what I know and will not do anything drastic before I am onstage. Staying the course as it stands will be the best thing I can do.

Just out of curiousity, why do you have your feet so close together in your back poses. You have good calves, i think they would show better with a wider stance. just my opinion.

Wow you said I have good calves! I have never had good calves and have sweat and bled a lot for the mass I've got on those things. Also, good question, Hulk...thanks for the feedback. I'll go back to the posing mirror with that question in mind, as I do not have an answer for you. I always liked the balance and aesthetics from placing my feet the way I do. If I can modify it and make it look better, I'll do that. Thanks again.
As for now, here are the official 3 week out pics. Taken mid-day, so I have lots of bloat from all my food. The front bi and rear shots are comparison from last week (left) to this week (right). I hope this makes for a clear and concise comparison.

I will love having this kind of fullness onstage. With the last week I should have all of the bloat, excess fluid, and sodium off of me and once shitloaded correctly, I will be hard to beat.

Man, my head has been trying to fuck with me during this last week...that little voice that says "you're not lean enough". I had a cheat yesterday because it was a day my muscles were feeling totally drained, and everything was trying to cramp up on me. Took in 7,700 calories total yesterday, and felt a bit better this morning. Thanks, guys...I know everything's on track when I get response such as that. It's amazing that even with the conditioning I am displaying my workout went so well:
Hack Squats: 4 plates/side x 10 reps, done ankle-to-ass style, slow and controlled, feet on the lowest part of the platform.
Plate-loaded Leg Extensions: 4 plates x 15 reps...last 3 reps not so slow or controlled...LOL
Straight-legged Deads: 315 x 20, done with straps of course
1-legged Plate-loaded Leg Curls: 2 plates x 12 reps, slow and controlled.
Hyperextensions: Upper bodyweight x 20
Knowing I'll be 1 week out from the show during my next leg workout, I will not be going all-out like in the manner I did today. Next week will be the same exercises, nearly the same weights, and lowered intensity from near 100% to approximately 80%.
BTW...training 100% during precontest would be asking for injury...at least for humans like me. I don't know how SDRaver gets through workouts with the amount of food he doesn't eat!!!

Thanks, BMJ! It sounds kinda backwards, but as the show approaches in the final 2 weeks, it's way easy for me to stay on track. It's the whole "seeing the light at the end of the tunnel" syndrome. The closer I get, the easier it is to eat these chicken breasts. They are actually 2-3 times tastier than when I first started dieting...LOL!
Here are the 1 week out progression pics. I weighed 207.6 upon waking. The hams and lower back detail is there. The last 3 days is always where the biggest visual changes occur, due to macronutrient/electrolyte/water manipulation. I should be well below the 198.25 lb limit at weigh-ins, so being over that weight by 9 lbs is not even a concern right now. I'll lose that much in my sleep the night before the weigh-ins.

Since u talk of the water weight PA u put up a post in the competitors thread on the whole fat loading thing from another board. somewhere in there a guy talk of sleeping in a "head tilt" postion to lose excess fluid. This makes sense to me when i think of how i used to do that after a foot march to bring the swelling down in the legs which i'm sure you are aware of with your military background. Ar you familar with this post at all and what do you think about it? And great job so far http://www.anabolicfitness.net/smileys/elephant.gif

Great work PA - looking awesom. Cant wait to see the pics from the show and what the final water manipulation can bring out.
Raver - I'm not really adding anything new, but as far at the head tilt postion at night, it does make sense from a physiological stand point. The theory being that you will increase the venous return to the heart due to the the effect of gravity and the blood coming out of the legs, incrased stretch in the heart, greater force of contaction, greater stretch in the aorta, trigering baroreceptors telling the body that the blood pressure is too high and it needs to decrease blood volume - hence diuresis occours. Wake up in the morning, blood distribution returns to normal, but you haven't added any exogenous water, infact probably no water at all, so blood pressure is low, water is needed to compensate and therefore it is pulled out of your skin - the least important of the three storage sites for water.
Now if sleeping in this position can create enought of an increased venous return to cause a significan effect on blood volume / diuresis who knows, but theoreticaly, that's what should happen.
Pain is temporary,

Thanks, guys. SDR, I have thought about the whole head tilt theory, and think it's better to stick with what I know will work: diuretics and carb/water/electrolyte manipulation. I won't have any problems getting under the 198 1/4 mark, actually I'm anticipating a weigh-in weight of 194-196.
Completed my last workout this morning! I lied. I told you guys that I'd be going 80% intensity this week. Oops...I went pretty much balls to the wall on all 4 of my last workouts...it's just impossible for me to slack knowing I have to be onstage. Luckily I didn't damage myself during this vulnerable state. Here is the high points of today's workout:
Hacks: 6 plates x 20 (ouch)
St. Legged Deads: 315 x 12 (actually didn't go all out on this one...I have sore back muscles.)
From here on out it will be posing practice and diet/water. This is the fun part!

I'll be eating 300-400 grams of carbs in the form of yams today, then repeating it tomorrow. Protein will be lowered from 300 to 200 today, as it's not really too important to keep it high this close to the show. Hey PA, I just want to give you a major congratulations on your win. I wanted to make it up to the show, but unfortunately couldn't get it done. I WAS there in spirit and was actually thinking about you most of the day...wondering how you were doing. You looked awesome and I know all of us here are proud of you.
Great work buddy!!!!!!!!

Wow. Thank you for all the wonderful responses! I'm looking forward to getting back onstage this weekend, only 3 days to go. Weighed 204.6 this morning. I've been carb depleting for 2 days now and will continue it today and tomorrow. Sodium restriction started today and 3 gallons of water will help to speed the sodium flushing. I should be about 3 lbs lighter tomorrow and another 2 lbs lighter by friday morning.
This show has an early weigh-in at the sponsor's gym at 4-7 PM friday. I plan on starting the carb load on early friday morning with loads of white rice, because it's dense and will not disturb my stomach at all. I will show up at the early weigh-in around 4-5 PM and will make the LHW cut-off (198.25 lbs). After the weigh-in, I will continue carb loading hard and dropping water at 9 PM again.
I was really under the weather last week and had a hard time getting carb loaded on thursday and friday, until I took in a bit of sodium during the trip. I felt tons better immediately and started filling out nicely in the hotel room. By the time I started shitloading (4 AM), i was ready to go onstage.
In retrospect, the shitload was perfect for a 12 Noon stagetime, but was a bit too long for the evening show (10:30 PM stagetime), which made me a TAD BIT smoother than at the prejudging. This time out I will shitload after the prejudging starts, and eat only white rice up till then. I think this plan will be a bit more challenging, but will also give me a better chance at the overall trophy this week, all depending on who decides to compete, of course.
Here's to the best support group a bodybuilder could have....thanks!!!

Flash Update:
Made the LHW class, took 3rd place out of 4. I had lots of fun at this show and met some great people. It was a small show, but luck had it a guy prepping for the Jr. USAs won the LHW class and overall, and the 2nd place guy was merely there to qualify for the Nationals in Nov. (1st and 2nd place in each weightclass get NQ.)
It was a big challenge, but I'm happy with the results. I was sick as a dog the whole time...it was a struggle just to get to the evening show!

Ulter, now that you put it that way, it seems more impressive...LOL!
I am glad I got a chance to get up onstage this year again after such a long time away. I looked better than I ever have and at the same time I know I have lots of work to do to take it a step further. I intend on doing so. I learned many things about myself and others this year and will use this season as many lessons I can learn from.
From assessing myself versus the competition this year, I have drawn some conclusions:
1. Competition is only getting better year after year.
2. I cannot compete in the LHW class any longer. I am too tall for that weight. I have to step it up to the HW class and compete at around 215-220 to look my best.
3. Diet is different each time you get ready for a show. Be flexible, give enough time to shred down the fat, and be ready to go 2-3 weeks out. This gives you ample time to experiment with last week techniques and to fill out the muscle bellies without having to kill yourself on cardio during the last month.
Well, that's all for this year's contest prep and analysis. I plan on taking some time off and then getting big enough to make people say "what the f?" I'm going to be the freak to beat the next time I step onstage.

You looked awesome, you did awesome. This was your best condition ever! THAT makes you a winner, 100%!!!
No doubt with your height and structure that you can be an incredible heavyweight, and still carry that wonderful symmetry and small waist.
You onstage at 215-220 lbs is a scary thought...for your competition!
Great work my brother!!

Congrat again PA. not many people are as fortunate to make those kind of gains yet still be able to look that far down the road to even more gains. You should certainly be happy knowing that. Well if i can come on stage close to that i will be happy for sure.

That ends my contest prep thread for 2005. All of you (too many to name) who have been here to support me in my quest for a competition comeback this year...a heartfelt THANK YOU. Special thanks to Ulter, Ula and MLB for coming out and cheering their guts out in florida. I love you guys. I'm making this unsticky and letting the rest be history.
Thanks for taking part in my success.

EDIT: I don't know which mod put it in here, but I'm HONORED to have this thread in the HOF. I'm really not worthy.
Very extra special thank you to my fiancee Pharm Queen, for the committment, patience, understanding, confidence, and trust put into me as the weeks of contest prep wore on. She is a woman tougher than nails and had the guts to push me through this prep till the end. It tested our relationship several times and I know if we made it through a contest prep, we can make it through anything life throws our way. Thank you for helping to make my dream of getting back onstage a reality. Without you, this journey wouldn't have been half as fulfilling. I love you with all my heart.
