What kind of skin do you have? Do you know if you burn easily?

The people at the tanning place should be able to help you. I would say that the first few times you should only go for about 5-7 minutes until you start to show some color. Then you can up it to 12, 15 or 20. These times do depend on the strength of the bed you are using.

I tan easily but after not tanning all winter long I'll still burn quickly the first time I go. Better to start slow and build up.

If you even had a bad sun burn from either a tanning bed or natural sunlight, you don't need me to tell you how painful or uncomfortable it can be.

Try 3 times a week. Then increase over time as you see fit. It really depends on how dark you want to get.

Also use a good tanning lotion. They come in differeny strenghts. Start with a beginning lotion or base tanning lotion.

Don't buy lotion from the tanning salon. It's marked up a least %100. Do a search on the net for tanning supplies/lotion. You'll find quite a few sites at wholesale prices.

Do you mean like the sunless tanning lotions, or something you put on before you go in the booth?

accelerators. They are lotions that you put on before you tan to help the melanin show up quicker. THey work really well.

Try the "High Pressured" tanning salons. They are more expensive but you tan twice as fast, with out the burn.

The rays that burn are filtered out.

I have some accelerator lotion from about 3 years ago. Do you think it would still be good?

My main concern has is that it has spent most of those three years in a vehicle. That means it has been subjected to a wide variety of temperature changes.

Do what Cyp said and go in the better beds, its better for your skin and it will look nicer.

I tan once a week, about every 6 days or so and it keeps me fairly tan and keeps the acne away.

taking trioxsalen from liquachem will definitley enhance your tan.

If you want proof check out my contest prep thread in the hall of fame section.

there's a few pics of me taken before putting tanning dye on. it was the darkest i'd ever been just from tanning

Naked tanning is awesome, no tan lines, no streaks. You might burn down under though. The first time or two you might want to cover your naughty parts for most or all of your tanning time. However, 10 minute stand up beds and high pressure beds won't burn you, like Cyp said.

Yeah, it should still be ok to use. But I would suggest you start out by putting a little on your lower leg(not your whole body) then tan just to be safe. I used one recently that was about 2 1/2 years old. Did the leg test myself. Also, always do it with any new lotion as well. Ive seen some messed up results.

My "naughty parts" have never had a problem being exposed to the lamps.

I hate tingle lotions. I like the ones that have a cooling effect to them. Not that the tingle lotions don't work (if you can stand them, they are great), but they make you look terrible and blotchy for about 45 min after the session. I tan to get rid of acne more than anything else though.

Kava Kava makes a couple of cooling lotions, one has a bronzer in it, I think it's called Tea Tree. I'm not big on bronzers though. They all seem to leave a residue that's a biotch until you can get home and wash it off.
