Default Let's hear it for Joe

Joe, Monster, lunchbox and I went down to Clay Brandenburg's gym this weekend. We learned a lot and got a ton of pointers...so much that we joined.

Joe used a rage shirt that was sitting around and if he was in a meet, he would have broke the state record for 198 in bench. He hit a 515 and had more in him. Needless to say, I wasn't the only one proud of him.

Clay told him that he could be a 600lbs bencher this year. He said he could qualify him for the WPO in a couple of years and could compete at the Arnold. That is HUGE!

Joe wasn't even getting ready for a contest, but is going to do a meet in March. I'm really proud of him and he deserves all the encouragement and praise that he gets.

Just telling you I'm proud of you buddy,
Cg

Thanks Doggy and CG. Its been a long year to finally show up to a gym and in one day's help crack it. The feeling is awesome and shocking and I still think how in the hell did I do it! I don't remember anything or hearing Clay tell me to press. It was a good pause I think but I don't remember the blood vessels ruptured all over my face! I look like I have freckles.

I was told I would be taking it in my opener!!!! Clay beleives I can crack 550 with a little work! Its a lot of pressure there putting on me but I have take it as what ever I can lift is what I lift that day good or bad.

That is an incredible accomplishment for any man. Good job.

I remember growing up in the 70's and the big claim was that the Steeler O-line could all bench more then 500 lbs. It was a first in the NFL. You are in some elite company. Congrats again. Stay healthy!

Me too. I feel like I got slammed into a wall over and over again. I love the intensity there. I think that is just what we needed.

And when I met you at Gold's you said you were done with powerlifting......Bwaahhaahhaha! Gotcha!

You aint kidding about being hit by truck feeling!

As many body parts I have messed up its amazed I can walk upright! But I like the idea of not squatting heavy for the next 5 weeks.

You guys sound like a great bunch of lifting buddies. That camaraderie, as much as the personal achievement, is what makes it all work, ain't I right?

A 515 bench? Call him Smokin' Joe from now on, CG!

That's because you're a quad squatter.

Seriously Joe, as a guy who himself is not good at compliments, revel in this. You have earned it yourself. It's about time a great guy gets his just due.

It's going to be fun to see you compete...even if you don't break the record (which you will). I think I may do that with you for total to see what I can do. What's the worse that can happen?

I'm proud of you buddy.

Thanks Bjaarki and your right. I am not good at taking so many compliments. If it wasn't for CG I would of quit a while ago. He kept bugging me to train with him and Monster. Then I thought what hell do have to lose or actually gain. I lossed weight prior to training with these two, I gained it all back. There the best training partners I have ever had. Reliable, dependable occasionally show up to the gym on time.

I can honestly say B....When he hit the 515, I was happier than if I had did it.

Thanks Mr. Meat. It was a long time coming. I have more in me. I just have to clear my mind and not think of the weight like I do squatting and deadlifting and we shall see what will happen.

Congrats to you Joepalooka!! I am glad I was there to see it, truley impressive.
Clay is right, you have more in you and you should be proud. I know the gang is!!

About being sore. I fell like I was hit by a truck. Then after, everyone in the truck took turns beating me with a bat.

lunchbox thanks, You have a lot in you too. The learning curve is steep. I am sure once your squat is up there in gear you will no doubt be a force to reckoned with! Once you get used to bench pressing again it will start coming to you about what you can do.

Lunchbox said that Clay was talking and said that as a group we have a lot of potential. I hope he was maybe referring to myself as well.

I am sure he was. Once you get your form down on the bench it will come to you to. Once you actually hit the groove of your shirt the weight kind of glides with the groove. YOu will get it once this happens CG. You will probably get a 100 or more pounds out of a shirt before I do. Next time you ME bench you just take the weight to where it is suppose to be.

He said as a group, which is the four of us.

I think with a little more practice Cg and I will be able to drive the weights up on the bench.
