Hey folks. I had a bit of scare last week that I thought I'd post here, now that it's over -- for the most part.
The story: Well, I've long known that my upper pecs are one of my weaker points. Over the last year I've used site injections, in the hopes of gaining some "extra response". Even though I don't believe in site growth, I figured why not try -- plus, another muscle set to add to the rotations is always desireable. There's kind-of three major bands (you learn this cause they tend to swell and it's really easy to feel the bands). I prefer to hit the middle one which is basically middle-upper chest -- runs straight across into the shoulder. In general, my pecs get quite irritated by the shots. In fact, 6 or 7 weeks out from a show, they held water so bad from a small injection that I lost cleavage between them for a week or so, LOL... just generally, they don't like it. Since my last show, I had been particularly BRUATAL on my chest workouts (even throwing in 2 brutal chest workaouts a week for a while) and the shoulder/pec attachments had become EXTREMELY sore. A couple weeks back I did chest site injections again. This was a new gear that is a bit... strong (high BA content) and it caused the band to swell into a hard, HARD band (nothing new, happens all the time). Thing is, it stuck around for quite some time. They were still quite sore about a week later and just as hard as the day after the shots (1/2 and 1/2 in each pec). Well, last Sunday they seemed to be... mellowing a bit. I arrived home Sunday afternoon and in an oddball movement (you'd have to see it to understand it, LOL, was quite acrobatic), I threw my arm back very hard, twisted funny and reached into the back seat. Well I felt something very strange in my pec I squealed (very painful). My shoulder/pec area has been sore for weeks, so I thought nothing of it as the pain subsided in a few minutes... didn't really seem THAT out of the ordinary. FM, I woke up last Monday morning and my right pec, near the shoulder was SERIOUSLY swollen. I had a massive balloon and the band was swollen WORSE than before. It was obvious this was not an injection infection, but I did suspect that with all the aggitation I could possibly have a sterile abscess. I went to the doc. on Tuesday (quickest appt. I could get and unless I saw red "Holes", there was no way I was discussing this with ANY OTHER doctor but mine who's aware of my use). He did not feel it was an abscess (gave me some anti-b's just in case). However, he WAS very concerned about the volume of fluid in the pec up near the shoulder. He figured it would likey need to be drained (infection or not, just too much fluid). He gave me some anti-inflamatories with pain killers that work remarkably well. On Wednesday, I went for an ultrasound. Goodness, she was FULL of questions... she had a bit of a language barrier and could not understand WTF this "injection" mention on the form was... "he gave you a shot?" she asked?... ummmm... yeah... a shot... yeah HE gave me a shot... Turned out she was an assistant and she eventually brought in the doc. HE didn't ask a thing, he just went to work and found the problem immediately It was pretty groovy as I could see the whole thing on a TV monitor. Long story short is that I tore my pec. It's "minor" and "superficial" but it's edge-to-edge and it bled A LOT. You could see the rip on the screeen (actually, now that the swelling is gone down, you can feel it -- feels like a thin hard rib of muscle sticking out of the pec) and there was a lot of blood clotting. He said not to worry and that it would be fine in a week or so, hopefully. Anyway, this all occurred due to the swelling from the site injection, and my acrobatic move... thinking about it later, and after discussing it with a couple freinds, I figure there really isn't a muscle that's stretched quite the same way pecs are when you reach back or do a fly sort of movement. I can attest to there being NO "extra" growth due to the site injections and the pec is just not a good place. I want to be clear, this isn't even close to the first time I've injected the pec... at least once (sometimes more) every 1.5 weeks. I always split the shot half to each side. Anyways, thought I'd share the story in case you were considering it. I'll never shoot pecs again. It's just a bit of an oddball muscle. And if the bands in your pec are swollen, then you stretch them... not a good scenario. Trust me, the scare alone of maybe having to be "drained" was enough to convince me, never mind the injury. So I'm just taking it easy, doing cardio and legs, on leg day ONLY (my trainer doesn't want me doing legs, legs, legs, LOL). Sorry for the long-winded story. B --------------------- "Um... Glad to hear everything is in check. You are for one a hard working bodybuilder who does not need a "speed bump" in is training. Your lucky.
Personally the thought of a pec injection has me all goosebumps. I tried my bicep once and nearly threw up on myself. My bicep twitched and the syringe danced around like a hula-girl. Very creepy. Anyways it quads, shoulders, and glutes since I can remember. I got daring once and once was enough. Good luck with everything and keep up with the training/competitions. BTW - are you near montreal. I ask because There is a national qualifiying show that is held in southern NH each september. Its small with alot of goofs. Its like four hours from montreal but you have a good chance at that show from what I've seen the past few years as well as your comp pics. |

Glad you are o.k.
Would you please be so kind and describe this "acrobatic move"? I'd like to try something new with my wife as well __________________________________________________ _____________________________________ Disclaimer: Mr. Nobody is presenting fictitious opinions and does in no way, shape or form encourage, use nor condone the use of any illegal substances or the use of legal substances in an illegal manner. Wow, nice to hear your alright.
Shooting the pecs is something i've never done, several of my friends do it and I've learnt from them not to do it. There are only a few places i will shoot, shoulder, glutes and lats. Nothing else. Used to shoot many more places but no longer. Hope it heals up well!!

Thanks for the support guys! LMAO @ Mr. N... well I wish I had a picture.
Thanks for the kind words JO, I'm in Alberta so too far. However, Nationals are unofficially (at this point) in Montreal next year. Will be competing in my first national show there. Well at least your ok bro. I like the part where you squealed, reminded me of the movie deliverance- you werent walking around in the woods were you and tore your pec some other way? Pec injections are tricky, i've done them just for lack of another place to shoot back in the day when i was shooting myself 15 times a day between the pgf2a, winstrol , fina and gh. I must say there is nothing quite like shooting the side where your heart is and getting that pain right over your heart. You have to have the right mentality to continue pec shots after that.

Ive been doing pecs for a while now and i get tightness but thats it. i kind of like them actually. The only reason i do that is because i wanted to rotate as many sites as i can. My most hated is quads. they hurt like hell. but i havent done calves either.
Im glad you are okay MrB. H "Everybody wants to be a body builder but don't nobody want to lift no heavy ass weight" -Ronnie Coleman

LMAO, at that part, at least. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that little encounter. Sounds like you dodged the bullet, but just barely, bro. Glad you're on the mend. Bjaarki ... Then, do what you have to do.

Mister B., your problem was the high BA in the gear not the pec shots. I know what you are talking about with the muscle getting hard. I had the same experience in my biceps with high BA gear, and at the time I swore that I would never hit biceps again. But as long as you have good gear, there really is no reason to avoid pecs.

So no more quads.

E2, How the heck does one shoot in the LATS??? Do you have somebody do it for you? I don't think I could reach over and do it on my own, especially if I were on something like D-bol.
Is there a site that shows how this can be done individually? I'd try this out if I could do it. Screw injecting into the chest. That would hurt like a mutha. I use quads, glutes, shoulders and biceps currently. When i'm on either a d-bol/anadrol cycle, I can't do the glutes due to.........dammit, what's that syndrome called that we use to call it here awhile back???....you know, the one where you can't reach around. What's it called? BMJ |

Glute shot defficiency syndrome LOL!!! I dont' do most of my shots, I don't like doing it, much prefer it when others do it. Lats are not hard, just stick it in your lat right on the outer part of your lat. The 'wing'. No i cna't do it myself

LOL....YEP, GSDS! That's what it is called. LOL...A couple of weeks ago, I seen a thread on another site about somebody experiencing this, and I was gonna just write down GSDS, but couldn't remember it. I've tried to do a search on this in the past and couldn't find the thread that it was on.
I'll have to see if I can reach over to my lat tomorrow when I inject, but from the feel of things, I don't think i'll be able to do it on my own. It will be close, but i'm not sure...lol. Damn, wish I had somebody who could do some of these inject's for me too. I'll report how it goes.... LOL...GSDS. BMJ |

I don't do Pec injects because that scene in Pulp Fiction where John Travolta puts a needle into that girls heart keeps running through my head every time I contemplate Pec shots....

LMAO, well first off I use a 1" pin. It'd nowhere near bone, even if entered straight down. Second, you DON'T insert straight up-and-down anyway, you put it in at an ANGLE... in other words, the pin could be a foot long and still would only be inserted into muscle
