Default STUDY: OX TREATMENT IN OLDER MEN

This abstract is pretty neet considering that the male samples were 'older' than the average users. These men probably already had low test levels to begin with. I doubt any of the men were on any kind of test replacement either. Shows you what a miracle drug Ox is even at a measly 20-mg's. The post-cycle muscle loss was inevitable anyway, and a no-brainer with these subjects.

The BEST part of the study is the fat-loss achieved and sustained 12-wks post-cycle. I bet these guys would have keeped more of their gains if they partook in some of the PCT tips outlined here and in the BB'ing world. I mean, especially at their ages, as it would be even harder to regain natty test levels, which was probably the culprit to their muscle loss post-cycle.

Actually, these guys should be on permanent HRT anyway.

20-mg's isn't a very strong dosage either, it would have been interesting to see subjects using variable dosages (ie 50 mgs/d) to compare gains.

J Appl Physiol 96: 1055-1062, 2004.

"Treatment with oxandrolone and the durability of effects in older men"

We investigated the effects of the anabolic androgen, oxandrolone, on lean body mass (LBM), muscle size, fat, and maximum voluntary muscle strength, and we determined the durability of effects after treatment was stopped. Thirty-two healthy 60- to 87-yr-old men were randomized to receive 20 mg oxandrolone/day (n = 20) or placebo (n = 12) for 12 wk. Body composition [dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), magnetic resonance imaging, and 2H2O dilution] and muscle strength [1 repetition maximum (1 RM)] were evaluated at baseline and after 12 wk of treatment; body composition (DEXA) and 1-RM strength were then assessed 12 wk after treatment was discontinued (week 24). At week 12, oxandrolone increased LBM by 3.0 ± 1.5 kg (P < 0.001), total body water by 2.9 ± 3.7 kg [P = 0.002), and proximal thigh muscle area by 12.4 ± 8.4 cm2 [P < 0.001); these increases were greater [P < 0.003) than in the placebo group. Oxandrolone increased 1-RM strength for leg press by 6.7 ± 6.4% [P < 0.001), leg flexion by 7.0 ± 7.8% [P < 0.001), chest press by 9.3 ± 6.7% [P < 0.001), and latissimus pull-down exercises by 5.1 ± 9.1% [P = 0.02); these increases were greater than placebo. Oxandrolone reduced total [-1.9 ± 1.0 kg) and trunk fat [-1.3 ± 0.6 kg; P < 0.001), and these decreases were greater [P < 0.001) than placebo. Twelve weeks after oxandrolone was discontinued [week 24), the increments in LBM and muscle strength were no longer different from baseline [P > 0.15). However, the decreases in total and trunk fat were sustained (-1.5 ± 1.8, P = 0.001 and -1.0 ± 1.1 kg, P < 0.001, respectively). Thus oxandrolone induced short-term improvements in LBM, muscle area, and strength, while reducing whole body and trunk adiposity. Anabolic improvements were lost 12 wk after discontinuing oxandrolone, whereas improvements in fat mass were largely sustained.

This is great. As you eluded to it's too bad they didn't let them stay on and check them every 6 months or so like they did with the young boys in the 80's. A study like that would have me changing my portfolio to include BTG.

The full study is in the Bjaarki Library now.

What I think is neatest is that there was no alterations in CRP ( now considered a major marker of a cause of most major diseases such as cancer, heart disease etc), only minor changes in liver function and more surprisingly the men treated with ox actually showed an IMPROVEMENT in prostate markers (PSA). Their prostate markers actually improved.

My fake breasts are the best part of me. Its funny. You boil me down to my most important features and it is 2 bags of saline.

I agree, when I saw the PSA numbers I was shocked. That was the other shoe I was waiting to hear drop when first started reading the study. My father just ran out of excuses.

using just 15mg ox alone? i highly doubt it. thats like saying your going to achieve the same goals on 10mg of am dbol. you will make gains, but 12lbs LBM?? i am skeptical, but keep us posted.

Frackal I would also like to hear you expand on and explain your theory.

I, by the way, believe that such a thing can be done. When I did 10mg of dbol in the morning I got a LOT more than I thought that I would.

Everyone is different, it depends how your body reacts to it.

a "freind" of mine will find out what 50 mgs of OX does to him for 8 weeks

I am sure his participation in the study would be valued
