Default computer security question...

using a female friends comp right now, and I DO NOT want her to find the sites ive looked at.

Im trying to eliminate the cache by going to history and going to temp. net files. deleted both. no problems...

however, when i start typing in ..some sites such as anabolex, musclemayhem, stuff starts popping up in drag down box by the address line..i have already turned off the auto complete feature and it somehow still shows bolex and other sites stuff...however for sites like espn.com no record any longer. what can i do to eliminate it..?

never had a problem before like this...only had to go to history and then no more suggested sites when i started typing in a letter...

thanks.

are you talking bout a pop up window or is it still autocompleting?

Click Tools: Internet Options: and under the general tab you should click on "Delete Cookies", "Delete Files" and also "Clear History"...Do that and then get out of there and everything should be gone. Let me know if you need anything else.

That might clear the autocompletes, especially if you have a google bar, etc.
It's kind of tricky if you don't know your way around the computer but if you want to give it a go.

Start
Run
type in REGEDIT click ok
Edit
Find
type in one of the names you want to take out like anabolex
When is comes back it should have found a list of sites in the history of the search bar. On the right side where they are listed rt click and delete the value of the ones you want to remove one at a time. Do not delete anything in the left panel.

If you are that worried, just change you password from a different computer, then she wont be able to log on as you even if she finds the site. If she sees that you were there, just say you clicked on a pop up link by accident.

Myself, I love busting people who use my PC. I got a key logger and busted my sisters ex-boyfriend for looking at porn (he wasnt the ex at the time ).

Forgot to say, you should also go to some legit sites, ebay, msnbc, etc, otherwise, it will look odd that you cleared out here stuff.

Where are you finding it in the registry? Are you deleting it and then it's still there the next time you go back to the registry?

How completely will this erase the information. I have just been informed that I may soon be the target of a law suit, and if so they may take my office computer - how easily would someone be able to find out what sites I had been to?

Also - if you look at something on a floppy that you put in your computer, does it leave a trail - can someone see what you opened from a floppy if you don't save it to your computer?

You must have sys restore on and perhaps other saftey precautions. Disable sys restore in control panel>System

Try searching your HD for anabolex in the contain text field

Thanks guys. Sorry to be redundant. But is what you view from a floppy disc but do not save to the computer retrievable if someone digs through your computer?

I am going to eliminate internet access from the office computer - I have let one staff employee have access to the internet at the office as well. How can I permenantly delete all internet trails. Tommy, will what you suggest make this information completely unretrievable

If you use Windows, which I assume you do, then a floppy does NOT solve this problem. The best you can do is get a utility like FreeToGo from www.freetogo.com or better yet something like PIP that you can take with you from www.imaginlan.com.
Both are reviewed in this months PC Magazine....www.pcmag.com in an article titled Safe Computing, UNSAFE PCs
