Lets Keep this Board Mature.

I feel that this board has been and is a real mature board, which seperates it from others on the net. It is true, informative, and open about, anabolic steroids, bodybuilding and over all general health. I am seeing a trend of obvious young "newbies" abusing this board for dumb and unrelated posts/questions. Its great that this is open and FREE knowledge, but I think maybe some people need NOT waste our time. Perhaps there maybe a way to screen new members and filter out some that do not belong on this mature board. I am Truly greatful for the AF board, it has been a great guidence and brotherhood/sisterhood that I take to heart. I just want to see it continue in the manner i was based on.

Mods please retort.

I am in full agreement with you Cyp! I post on another board occasionally, because they offer some things that AF cannot, due to the fact that we are relatively small and do not attract the hoards of attention that they do. I will say that since it's inception, there is no other place I would rather get info on bodybuilding than AF

This board does not tolerate flaming, drama, personal attacks and what not, however amusing replies will be allowed to keep things light hearted......dont want to be too mature.....and the way to handle obviously unresearched newbie questions is to remind said poster of the need to use search and/or present more detailed information

I'll chime in for those of us intimidated by the incredibly knowledgable vets of the board: While there are sometimes posts of an incredible "newbie" nature here on this board, these people generally grow up quick or lose interest. I don't think any new policies need to be implemented here, at least presently.

I always cut the newbies a little slack and answer the first question or two. If it looks like they are going to develop NSX (Newbie Syndrome X) where they are obviously not going to use the search or read the CS's or Cycles Board, I will suggest they do a little reading before asking questions that may already have been covered 14,895 times already.

I guess being one of the newbies, I will speak up for myself. I started off asking some dumb questions, got some good solutions and have learned a lot. On one of my first posts, I asked some stupid question like "what does CLA stand for?" or the equivalent. VOX-DEI basically told me I was an idiot and to read all of the past posts before bothering everyone with it. I really wanted to find him and beat the crap out of him for a while, but once I started reading the old posts, I realized that he was right, and I have since learded quite a bit from the old threads.

Basically, my thoughts are cut the new guy some slack, help them to wake up and figure out what the heck to do here and then if they cant figure it out, maybe take some action. Banning them is not necessary, just edit their signature to say something like "Don't bother with me, I'm a moron!" would get the message across quickly.

So, in closing, thanks for putting up with me through the learning stage. I am glad to be here. The only bad thing is that in all seriousness, it is a little difficult to learn to use the search function properly. I tried to run a search on T3 today and could never get a result to work, just kept getting "too many threads match, try narrowing search"

Go home, put on a silly hat…do whatever morons do.

Maybe you could suggest a good newbie board for these poor folks.I'm of the opinon that the only stupid question is the one not asked, and besides we where all new to this game at one time.Share the knowledge like those before us.

IMHO, newbie questions are not TOO bad, these types should just be told to please Search first and Ask Later.

One good sticky that says "new members are urged to use every reasonable means possible to answer their question using the search pages" should cover it. When some kid asks what size syringe to use with his creatine, or how he can snort 45g of protein powder, we can just point him to that newbie message.

What is far worse IMHO are the obvious off-topic posts, liek "What club in Jersey will you guys be at" or comments of some TV show, or Britney, or Football, or something that's obviously not on-topic. These should all be either deleted or moved to an off-topic board. Period, end-of-story.

The signal-to-noise ratio on this board is much much higher than any others I have found. Only through such diligent management will it stay that way.

I don't see the problem, though I am in agreement that it is important to keep the board mature, with the occasional ribald or goofy post, as Mr. N says, to keep us humble. I was recently, at another board I check, in a nasty little fight over their bigotted comments with a couple of unreconstructed Sons-of-the-Confederacy types. It really made me appreciate the importance of AF as a "civilized discussion of anabolic steroids." Amen!

It would be easier to understand what you are talking about btw if you weren't quite as vague and concretely put down what you consider to be immature bullshit like talk. I do value the old-timers on this board, and at CEM, both seem to have the ability to keep the emotion and drama at bay.

Wasn't it Fonz that wanted to shoot himself with a Fina pellet gun to avoid using needles? Now he is one of the best contributors on here, which proves that dramatic intellectual development can definitely take place.
