and not totally banned. Im guessing it wont be all that bad since supplement companies will have to meet label requirements and USP standards. This in turn will just result in more expensive supplements, but will force the cheesey ones that dont meet label claims out of business
whats your take? |

My take is that the bill is not specific enough. It still leaves too many backdoors open that could allow the complete loss of access to supplements for the public.
How would you like to go to the doctor to get a script for vitamins? Hell, with the amount of people seeking alternatives to traditional medicine, the pharmaceutical special intrest lobby would be well served by the "regulation" of supplements... or more namely by what they can do once the correct legislation is in place. Remember: Your putting the power to make decisions in the hands of a group of self serving liars. These guys tell us AAS does NOT build muscle! Theyve been selling that line of bullshit since the Steroid Control Act went into effect. These guys say certain supplements dont do anything, even though these supplements are used overseas IN THE PLACE OF PRESCRIPTION MEDICINE! But we're told they dont do anything. How many worthwhile supplements will NEVER make it on the shelf because the company owners cant pay what it costs to prove a supplement works? According to the 1993 Congressional Offices of Technology Assessment, drug companies spend an average of $359 million dollars to develop a new drug for the general public. Even if a supplement company only needs to pay a fraction of that cost, I doubt if any will be able to.
quote:
This in turn will just result in more expensive supplements, but will force the cheesey ones that dont meet label claims out of business.

How about $1000 for a bottle of 1-Test? Maybe more??? Apply prescription drug prices to vitamins? Vitamin C at $3 a pill because the manufacturer spent $50 million dollars to prove it does what it has done for people for as long as its been around? And hell, how many supplements do something that isnt exactly tangible? To me, the labeling claims are sufficiant. Its wrong to stop people from making an educated decision just because some people are too stupid to make an intelligant choice. So we'll restrict access to Coral Calcium because some jack-asses believe its a miracle cure-all? Do we then ban circular saws because some dumbass could carelessly cut off a finger? The people who bought myostatin binders deserved to lose that money. Come on, a pill that could change your genetics? For $5 I'll let you stand in front of my microwave with the door open, at least that could actually cause some sort of genetic anomoly in you... We're giving away our freedoms one by one. But I shouldnt say that, revolutionary speech could lead malcontents to act out... we better restrict free speech while we're at it, just to be safe... ------------------------- Monsterland Is Open Again!!! Monster, You are 150% right, i am tired of losing our rights... no government should be able to tell grown adults what to do with their own bodies. Doggy

Too late...it has been happening since the human race began. As far back as history goes other adults have told other adults what to do with their bodies. I don't think that any significant power can stop that from happening. Now as far as the law and certain bills being passed... I am sure that something can be done. As far as the loop holes are concerned, those will be fixed in oh...10-20 years when they FINALLY figure out that this stuff can promote health and muscle growth among other things when used properly. But most of the people on capital hill don't know the difference in what Vit C and Calcium and what they do for your body other than that when they were kids they were told by their mothers and their pedietrians that it was good for a growing boy to consume. So it is ok. So they allow it as long as it is in the regular foods and beverages that we consume at the super market. But not anything in a pill or tablet form because to them that is reconized as MEDICINE to them or worse yet a DRUG. And they can't seem to see past that in their minds. But that is just my take on the subject... politicians. They start out campaigning for a good cause, and they very well may be all for those causes. But as soon as they go to Washington its either play ball with the big boys or watch yourself get run over and humiliated. And that is my take on another subject. barnes3 Real Leaders Are Ordinary People with ExtraOrdinary Determination.

They are very smart people, and they know EXACTLY what the difference between a drug and a vitamin is... they are merely bowing to special interest pressures that would prefer to see us pay large sums for a prescription to try and cure a problem as opposed to pay a little for something that could prevent the problem. The entire "protecting us" thing is a sham. If our safty were any concern of theirs they would be attempting to take tobacco off the market, but the tobacco lobby has big money too, so they are safe.
quote:
when they FINALLY figure out that this stuff can promote health and muscle growth among other things when used properly.

C'mon. You dont really think they dont know do you? I dont know how old you are, but back in the days you could go to your doctor and tell him you wanted to put on some muscle and he would write you out a script for Deca or test. It was that simple... the doctor would even go so far as to suggest an AAS for you. The same doctor post steroid control act would stand there and tell you that that same AAS he used to prescribe you "Doesnt cause muscle growth. It leads to brain tumors and liver failure and infertility." Doctors were told they had to do what the AMA/FDA/DEA said in regards to AAS or lose their liscence to practice. If you think we're privy to some inside information about AAS, vitamins, herbs and supplements that the government hasnt figured out yet youre painfully naive or just fooling yourself. It all gets down to the almighty dollar. Big business runs this coutry and big business' interests are the only ones that will be looked out for in the end... ------------------------- Monsterland Is Open Again!!!
