Im 41 5'7" 205lbs currently not cycling. Ive had sleep apnea for some time but finally on the advice of many about my snoring and breathing breaks(they even videoed) Sleep clinic said i had multiple episodes even far above the base norm for being diagnose with it.
Started Snoring and (maybe the apnea too) 14 years ago the same time i began cycling. I use now a CPAP and sleep excellent.

Well it started for me when I came up to 270lbs (I'm 5'8)

Also, I made some dumb mistakes and partied too hard for a while (1 month, ie coke)

I'm going to drop down to 240lbs right away and see if it helps...

I had sleep apnea when I was weighing 300lbs and above, haven't had any problems for awhile now though.

I hate that damn mask, can't sleep with it on.
It's like holding your head out a car window at 80mph, and trying to go to sleep.

Thats how I felt for a while then it became as natural as my everyday sleeping-even on my stomach(with the right positioning of the pillows). Plug in some nitrous oxide and you will sleep. New surgeries are on the way and you can bet insurance will cover. Large weight drop doesnt always solve the problem but has in many cases reduced the severity if not cured the problem.

I have had it from 190lbs to now @ 245.

Weight is a factor. I use a full face mask it is easier to deal with the the nasal one. It sucks either way but it sleep dep WILL affect your gains.

I feel MORE tired without it but I am always tired anyway.

I can say this DO NOT DO THE SURGERY...it is not mature enough. I had the UPPP and it did not help in the long run especially if you gain and lose weight...the tissue builds up again.

I have a good sleep doctor through many iterations and she tells me the procedures will be much better in about five years.

I hate the mask too but my fiance' likes it (no snoring)

I read your other posts on your condition BigAndy. You have to get hold of yourself bro. Your drug binge and poor eating/no training lead to this and you can reverse it just as fast as you brought it on.
I had the same problem the last time I bulked. It will go away when you come down 20-30 pounds. Now get on it.

Ulter, how would you feel walking around at 150lbs but no apnea?
Apnea is a very potenial problem for all bodybuilders like gyno. i didnt BRING IT ON, i was making nice gains and then the snoring started. And to note, even though i was off 3 full years, the apnea stayed, kinda like BT's. I agree 110% that drug/alcohol will create serious snoring but not necessarily apnea. Just my.o2-Marky

Ulter is right bro, I brought it on myself. Truth is I've had a nose problem since I fell on it when I was 8. I've had 2 surgeries but they didn't help.

I've already cut down on the food, and doing a little more exercise. Stretching mostly.

First course of action for me was to have my septum corrected.Lotta years of kicken ass and gettin ass kicked left me with plenty scar tissue. The fantastic thing about it was it after a year brought my sense of smell to extraordinary levels. I could whiff a beer fart in Casablanca. But didnt help with the apnea. The older that you get the more possible apnea is, esp with BB's. Ulter may be right about it goingaway if you get your life and body weight in order, i hope it does. In the past when partying esp in College-no apnea. Started with BB and AAS and didnt pass when off. Now I dont really even drink and still i snore like backstreet ho. I just will lastly say that the quality of my life has become dramatically better since treatment.

I too have sleep apnea. Just finsihed my sleep study and received my CPAP. I have snored VERY loud as long as I can remember. Mine must not be connected to weight as I was snoring loudly my last weeks in baxic training at 5'10" and 175 lbs.I am now 41, 5'10", 208 lbs @ 18% BF.

I am starting to get used to the CPAP. I have a humidifier BUT still have a very dry mouth 5 minutes after turning it on.

I am interested to see how my gains will improve. I never slept more than 2-3 hours at a time and never dreamed. Now, I sleep thru the night and dream constantlty.

Has anyone seen an increase in gains dramaticaly after using the CPAP?

Thanks,

Farrar

there seems to be trend as to who may be more likely to get sleep apnea, but it still seems to stike anyone Usually it is accompanied by snoring and interupted breathing episodes. It can hit early or later in life. Surgical experimentation is still young while the CPAP is proven to work. My life and gains have been better than 100% since my sleepecame complete. BP down and stress way down. The sound of the CPAP actually helpsme sleep
