Default Thoughts on the fat in egg yolks

Leaving genetic inclination aside, I've recently learned that the consumption of dietary cholesterol does not have that significant of an effect on blood-cholesterol levels by comparison to the consumption of saturated and trans fatty acids. All that being said, what do some of you think of getting your fat through egg yolks? Arnold wrote that when considering some of the nutrients found in the yolks of eggs, it is better to remove fat from other sources and keep the whole egg. Thoughts?

It'll be a cold day in Hell when I chuck a healthy egg yolk for fear of eating it.

Even though I've been eating only the whites for a while, I like the way you think, Blut.

Eg yolks are already filled with vitamin and the dietary cholesterol isn't linked with our blood cholesterol levels. It's linked with saturated (and trans) fat intake though so as long as you check your saturated fat intake it sould be fine. I wouldn't rely only on eggs though, except maybe if you get omega-3 or free-range chicken's eggs (which are omega-3 filled too). Meat is the best source of food but nowadays meat is different in many ways from what it used to be (more fat and that fat is more saturated and less polyunsaturated for example).

seems I eat a half dozen whole eggs at a time these days.

i don't think I could choke down egg beaters if I wanted to like I used to.

I'm healthy as a horse, said my doc last time I was there. Also had a life insurance blood test, ect and they let me in without 2nd tests or a peep about something being 'unusual.'

The omega 3 eggs have minimal saturated fats if your worried about that.

Can't really add anything else than what has been posted. I eat the whole egg as well

Just figure it in with your daily calorie/ratios and adjust accordingly. I absolutley do not have the patience anymore to separate the egg yolk or de-shell a dozen+ eggs....so I just scramble mine

Studies show that heart disease might not be linked to cholesterol, but rather an inflammation of the arteries. This is supported by the fact that over 60% of heart attacks occur in people with normal cholesterol levels (Source).

The believed culprit?
Quote:
Homocysteine is an amino acid in the blood. Too much of it is related to a higher risk of coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease (fatty deposits in peripheral arteries). Evidence suggests that homocysteine may promote atherosclerosis (fatty deposits in blood vessels) by damaging the inner lining of arteries and promoting blood clots. However, a causal link hasn't been established.
Source

B vitamins, like folic acid, help reduce homosysteine, which is caused by eating protein. While the quote says a "causal link hasn't been established," the article goes on to say that it's currently trying to be established how much folic acid is needed, not if folic acid is needed. The recommendation from the AHA is 440mcg (micrograms) of folic acid daily, and a balanced diet.

I usually throw in a couple of yolks, along with about 6 egg whites. I think that overall they are good for you. I just don't want to eat that many calories at once. Actually I DO want to, but I DON'T want to pay the price of the extra calories!

When I first started "eating healthy" I was doing raw egg whites, which were kinda gross anyway. But when it came to the yolk part, I just couldn't... something about the consistency of them and that its like squished baby chick....

Of course now, bring it baby! I do cook my eggs before eating tho...

I know I am a broken record when it comes to eggs, but seriously, SALSA....it spices things up...

Plus, toss in some hardboiled eggs, pre-make them, and then peel and eat - you can make a game-time decision as you peel whether to eat the whole egg or just the white.
