Default Where is the best place to buy gym equipment??

I'm sick of lifting with all the punks in my gym! Those little bastards with wife beaters that just stand there and look in the mirror take up too much space and get in the way. Everytime my gym offers a special you get a whole new flock of them.

Anyway, I'm looking into turning my basement into a complete gym. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. I don't want to get stuck with any of that cheap typical "home gym" equipment.

My gym sells me the stuff off the floor for half of what a the item might be.

Check the local paper and classifieds for used equipment. There's tons for sale because people alway's decide they want to start working out but quit after a few months leaving some prime equipment out to be had for a good deal.

I bought a set of pro powerblocks with stand and bench for 170 and were in great shape. Also found a used squat rack in great shape for 60.

For weights I looked into ivanko but they're just too expensive. I ended up buying a set on sale at sportmart. 390lb olympic plates 4(45), 2(35), 2(25),2(10), 4(5), 2(2.5) plus bar and clips. . .it ended up costing me about 150 w/tax not bad. They're painted plates which I really don't like cause they leave paint residue on the bar, but for my home use they work great at a limited budget.

http://www.jesupgym.com/ This place has also got some great deals if you're looking to go all out.

Buy the basics first and buy heavy duty equipment. A power rack (with a chin up bar on it), a sturdy bench (ajustable if possible) and an olympic barbell with plenty of weights is all you need to build muscle.

If you decide to invest more on your home gym, you can consider buying a dip attachement and some dumbells.

The best deals on heavy duty material will be found buying used merchandise from a commercial gym. Ask around.

Good luck.

I just did the same.

I have a 3 car garage and I'm walling off 1 car worth.

I bought a used Powerrack($90) with Lat pulldown attachment, a nice incline decline bench($20), Olympic barbell set 310 lbs($30), and a set of pro powerblocks($180).

Everything was used, and the complete set cost me under $350. Takes up very little space.

Oh yeah, bought an Eclipse 2000 Elliptical for cardio - $40.

I got mine either at the Goodwill type stores, or in the paper. There are always stuff for sale cheap, used. It took me a little over 4 weeks to find everything I wanted (from the time I got the power rack - my first purchase.)

Still need the Powerblock add-on kit to get me up to 85# on the dumbbells. I'm afraid I may have to buy that retail - that's over $200 (ouch).

All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.

Go to a search engine and you get more links just off of fitness equipemnt.

No one good place to shop.
Look at the equipment... I went thru three benches before I stopped on the one I have now.....alot of money wasted.

In the end i have a mix...some parabody, some nautlis, some pro-tec...etc.

All because I like the way each one was designed and fits my needs.

If you want I'll post pic's of my basement.. It's tight but I have just about everything you could need.
