When stretching shouldnt you go to right when you feel it stretch maybe a little further but not too much?

I was told that stretching with a partner (having someone push you into stretches) overstretches you and doesnt stretch the muscle but the ligament, making it easier to get injured.

yes never use a partner, they can not know how hard to push,
if you are cold stretching only push it until you feel resistance/tension, not a stretch, but if you are warmed up well enough you can go until the slight burn
