I found something neat at Wal-Mart yesterday for only $1.22, so I bought a few and they're in the freezer at work right now. It's a new line of veggie steamers by Green Giant. I could only find a big picture of one, the rest are small.

It has two servings in there, but at 50 calories per serving with .5g of fat per serving, eating two servings is healthy and filling. Red peppers, snap peas, and potatoes in some kind of sauce that's apparently very light and low-cal + low-fat to still keep those 50cal, .5g stats.

The other ones have these weird titles...all I care about is the ingredients, nutrition facts, and convenience.

Healthy Weight: Sliced carrots, sugar snap peas, black beans and edamame lightly tossed with butter sauce.

Immunity Boost: Broccoli florets, julienne carrots and red and yellow sweet pepper strips in a garlic-herb infused extra virgin olive oil seasoning.

Healthy Vision: Sliced carrots, zucchini quarters, and sliced green beans lightly tossed with rosemary butter sauce.

I bought all the varieties, but have only tried the one with the picture so far. The snap peas are still green and crunchy, and the potatoes aren't mushy, so I'm a happy camper.

I am having a lot of trouble bringing up a relavent article but I believe there has been some controversy related to the safety of doing the microwave steaming thing (more specifically the foil packaging ones that recently came out) but generally in regards to the release of phytoestrogens which may increase the storage of abdominal fat and also the release of carcinogens from microwaving plastics and increase in cholesterol.

I dunno maybe one of our resident board experts can chime in on this a little fruther.

I've read about it. Because it seems to be produced by more "natural" doctors, stuff like that ususally sparks some controversy for no reason, so I left it out.

Yeah, it was the study done at JHU recently talking about what contributes to cancer. Their top three no nos were no plastic containers in microwave, no plastic wrap in microwave, and no plastic water bottles in freezer. I was bummed to see this too because I have been buying those quick steam green bean packs. :(

Yeah, but don't most studies prove that something causes some kind of cancer? lol. I like to judge how it makes my body feel. I will most certainly say that when I swore off the microwave for about 7 months, I was doing just awesome. Then life started to pick up, and I'm lucky if I can cook my meals, let alone have leftovers to nuke.
