March 10: New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologizes to his family and the public saying, "I failed to live up to the standards I set for myself." MSNBC Spitzer linked to prostitution ring? Delegate update How can you want him as VP, if…? BREAKING NEWS updated 9 minutes ago NEW YORK - Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologized to his family and the public on Monday, but did not not elaborate on a bombshell report that he has been involved in a prostitution ring. "I have acted in a way that violates my obligations to my family ... my sense of right and wrong," he said at a news conference at his Manhattan office. "I must now dedicate some time to rededicate my trust to my family." Spitzer's wife stood at his side, her hands behind her back and her eyes cast downward, as he made the statement. The New York Times earlier reported that a person with knowledge of the governor’s role believes the governor is identified as a client in court papers filed last week. Four people allegedly connected to a high-end prostitution ring called Emperors Club VIP were arrested in that case. The Times reported that a person briefed on the federal investigation said Spitzer was caught on a federal wiretap arranging to meet with a high-priced prostitute at a Washington hotel last month. Spitzer learned he had been implicated when a federal official contacted his staff last Friday, the person briefed on the case told the Times. The Web site of the Emperors Club VIP displays photographs of scantily clad women with their faces hidden, along with hourly rates depending on whether the prostitutes were rated with one diamond, the lowest ranking, or seven diamonds, the highest. The most highly ranked prostitutes cost $5,500 an hour, prosecutors said. Prosecutors said the defendants arranged connections between wealthy men and more than 50 prostitutes in New York, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Miami, London and Paris. The Times reported that the governor’s travel records show he was in Washington in mid-February, and that one of the clients arranged to meet with a prostitute on the night of Feb. 13. The case is being handled by prosecutors in the Public Corruption unit of U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia’s office. Garcia spokeswoman Yusill Scribner said the office had no comment. Spitzer, 48, built his political legacy on rooting out corruption, including several headline-making battles with Wall Street while serving as attorney general. He stormed into the governor’s office in 2006 with a historic share of the vote, vowing to continue his no-nonsense approach to fixing one of the nation’s worst governments. Time magazine had named him “Crusader of the Year” when he was attorney general and the tabloids proclaimed him “Eliot Ness.” But his stint as governor has been marred by several problems, including an unpopular plan to grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants and a plot by his aides to smear Spitzer’s main Republican nemesis. Spitzer had been expected to testify to the state Public Integrity Commission he had created to answer for his role in the scandal, in which his aides were accused of misusing state police to compile travel records to embarrass Senate Republican leader Joseph Bruno. Spitzer had served two terms as attorney general where he pursued criminal and civil cases and cracked down on misconduct and conflicts of interests on Wall Street and in corporate America. He had previously been a prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, handling organized crime and white-collar crime cases. His cases as state attorney general included a few criminal prosecutions of prostitution rings and into tourism involving prostitutes. In 2004, he was part of an investigation of an escort service in New York City that resulted in the arrest of 18 people on charges of promoting prostitution and related charges. |

When Spitzer came into office, a very successful Republican administration was leaving. His appeal crossed party lines, the Republican party offered no real alternative, and he rode into office with a mandate to focus on his platform of re-installing ethics into government and cleaning up state institutions.
Somewhere along the way though politics has a way of turning people into politicians. It's a shame. Always seems to be the people with the highest and most vocal "ethical standards" who fall the furthest. |

Interesting that he didn't resign, he admitted culpability and he is going to be indicted today or tomorrow.

From the Smoking Gun
"Additionally, the affidavit notes that after her appointment with Client-9 ended, "Kristen" spoke with a Emperors Club booker, who said that she had been told that Client-9 "would ask you to do things that, like, you might not think were safe..." "Kristen" responded by saying, essentially, that she could handle guys like that." I think some pictures like the Marv Albert series are going to turn up.

Why is that it's always those holier than the Pope types that are the ones that are the unholiest!
A good ole' lesson I've learned--you just can never base your opinion of someone based on his words and self-portrayal...apparently even his actions.

Because by paying such an exorbitant price he is artificially inflating the worth of punani at the everyday Joe's level. If he is paying 3500-4500 an hour for it, that means your average craigslist girl will raise her prices. Damn seller's market.

That's just what it is, MLC. Not trying to take a side on this one. His administration has been plagued with scandal and he was never able to get much done because of it. He was not a good governor. Quote:

I think there is something very significant about this. We were told that wire taps and surveillance would not be done on ordinary US citizens, and only to prevent terrorist activities. Obviously these taps for the US Patriot act are being done on US citizens, and for activities other than terrorism - which is exactly what many were worried about when all the sureillance was started. They were right. Obviously he made the wrong person mad.
