My training is changing these days.
I am recovering from a badly strained Bicep tendon and a nagging Rotocuff problem. I am older so I know I need to train smarter but i've always lifted heavy, light days have never been part of my routine..so I feel like i'm not accomplishing much. Any of the Baby boomer set have any suggestions on programs and or routines, that might be of benefit. I am a "hardgainer" per say and rely on heavy calories, heavy weight, and a 1 on 1 off split Every bodypart once a week. Thanks Guys. Doggy |

Work on light isolation work for the rotator cuff to strengthen the connective tissue. You might get more benefit from pre-exhausting the area and then moving in to your chest movements. Also, it might help to lighten the poundages and focus on the negatives so you get more intensity out of your workouts. Hope this helps.

I'm about 10 years short of being a baby boomer but I'll post anyway.
I haven't had to adjust my training in 20 years. That doesn't mean I don't change what I do, you have to. You should change your whole routine at least every 6 months. But I don't train "easier" or less than I did at 25. I will admit one thing that I find makes training more comfortable and results in better workouts and that's time off. Once every 4 months I take three weeks off of everything, even cardio. Then when I come back it's a lot more fun and all the little nagging injuries are gone. Because I am always on it's 3 weeks, it used to be 6 weeks when I was going on and off. You should take a few weeks off and then try Arthur Jones HIT program for a month. www.cyberpump.com is devoted to it. |

Ulter,
Thanks for jogging my memory. I have both of Mentzers books and actually gained my first 20lbs off his HIT program. I'll try it again..Great idea. Now, about the Baby Boomer thing, I believe to be a boomer you must have been born before 1963..so am I to assume you are now younger than me.. Pass the magic potion!! Thanks friend. Doggy |

Boomers are Americans born between 1946 and 1964, inclusive. So, yeah, you're a Boomer, Ulter, though we can arrange honorary membership in Gen-X if you really insist.
Doggy, send me a zip if you want. I might have a suggestion or two about who you might talk to about rehabbing your injuries, lifting for older bros. I've had the same injuries you have (now recovered), and am also a geri-case. I'm not in denial about it, though, like our Florida friend here ... as a boomer with bilateral bicep tendon pain I can certainly relate. I find that Deca relieves the pain pretty well. I also use something called Boswellia cream that has an ayurvedic herbal extract along with some salicylcates and other stuff. It seems to help. Also reevaluated and changed my form and order I perform my exercises. Used to always combine chest , tris and back , biceps. Changed it to back, tris and chest, bis. Seems to be helping. I found back, bis combo put to much strain on the sore tendons.
