Default Got my first snatch yesterday!

I had noticed that lately when I do fast movements without warming up super well I pull muscles. I use to do alot of martial arts and rapid movements did not bother me. But for the most part all I have done for the last 2 years is powerlifting type moves and cardio - my physique looks better but seems to have certain weaknesses. So I had been wanting to incorporate some more explosive lifts into my program - Olympic style lifting, but did not want to try them on my own for fear of injury. The other day a guy at the gym, I find out, use to competitively lift Olympic style and he showed me how to snatch. I never went that heavy (115 LBS), working mostly on form, but my traps and upper back are very sore today. It was fun trying some new lifts.

I am hoping to get a good vertical back for basketball, and to develop some explosiveness and a tolerance for fast movements. Has anyone had experience with Olympic lifts and seen such types of gains?

Olympic lifts are great for improving explosive power. So are sprints, and plyo's.

Check out a book called(I think) "jumping into plyometrics" by Dr. Chu. I know that's the authors name. Its a great book on improving explosive power and speed. He basically outlines the proper way to superset heavy compound movements with plyometrics to take advantage of CNS supercompensation. Its helped me out a lot.

I do alot of powercleans, and they definitely help with trap and back development.

I love Olympic lifting... I did it for 5 yrs for FB... If you have the facilities, nothing beats it.
