How long after shoulder surgery (labrum tear, rotator tear, some spurs) can someone start lifting heavy again (bench 300+)?
Fawkes...Just had rotator cuff surgery an clavicular shaving that had casued the long time fraying of the rotator cuff plus some impingement issues. Had my surgery on Jan 11, 2008.(injury occured on 11-01-7). Its going on 2 months and Ive just begun my strentgh traing and its minimal manual resistance by the therapist. I feel good but realize that it will be another month or two b4 that heavy lifting can happen. Dont push it because you will wind up at point A again. Its frustrating but when I think back to the progress Ive made I realize it will get better for me.

its all individual. id go to elitefts.com and read some of the pro pl's whove suffered injuries and read their rehabs and ask some questions.
nobody here can tell you for fact what and when to do that i know of.

Fawkes - are they trimming everything, or are they actually repairing? Trimming will be the fastest recovery. When you get something repaired, you have to wait for the repair to heal, which will greatly increase recovery time.
And as Iliekefude said, there will be some indivdual differences, plus you are never quite sure what they will find when they take a peak inside you.
I had a frayed labrum and supras - got them trimmed and cleaned up and was lifting heavy in about 6 weeks.
I also had a frayed supra trimmed, an A/C decompression (shaving the hook on the A/C that was causing impingement), and about 3 cm of my clavicle removed due to distal clavical osteolysis. I was back lifting heavy in about 8 weeks.
I had a bunch of trimming done back on Dec 13 and I was back over 300 in mid Feb. I had a decompression which relieved an impingement. It was a quick scope, I was back at the gym in two weeks lifting lightly.

Had 2nd shoulder surgery 10/24/07. 3rd week in Febuary i benched 325/2x. Of course I got sick with the flu and didn't workout for 2 weeks after that. Just started lifting yesterday.
Rich....what type of surgery did you have? You had the surgery @ the end of OCT, and put that weight up in Feb. When did you actually start lifting again (after the surgery)?

I tore the infraspinatus, supraspinatus and long head bicep tendon, frayed labrum repair. First surgery was 7/18/07. Retore the supra, infra and a small tear in the long head bicep and had the second surgery 10/24/07. Stayed on a low dose test e cruise throughout and started lifting light 1/1/08. Started dbol /25 mg, slowly increasing dosage for 5 weeks. Febrary I started lifting more weight. In January when going light it was like a test, see what was going to hurt, studying every lift. It still hurts today when I bench but the weight is moving (percocets help). It's more of a tricep workout with the elbows in and a close grip. After the second surgery i was a model patient, going to PT, doing the streches on my own.
