Default Politics and vitamins

McCain with the GOP nod is looking strong now. he is also very big on tighter vitamin laws (prescription only?). It looks like the heat is being turned up on some vitamin companies:

This was a good thread right here on the topic:

McCain on supplements and prohormones

I think it will be good to turn up the heat to the extent that it weeds out all the illegit products on the market...and of course the quality standards. I'm just scared that once the ball gets rollin', they'll try to go too far and overboard with it...trying to ban stuff that shouldn't.

They just went after him because he was distributing steroids, GHB and ephedra after the ban. The guy was asking for it.

Yeah but reading the article it sounds trumped up. He made the pharmaceuticals in Belize to be sold cheaply in countries it was legal to sell in - other people overseas bought his products and then resold them here in the states without his permission. He has no control over what others do. It does not sound like he did anything illegal. In this country he only sold legal herbal products - no ephedra during the ban.

In Europe pretty much vitamins are MD prescription only (Codex). I think McCain and some others are wanting to do that here.

You just quoted his side of the story. The indictment says otherwise:

"A 45-count indictment unsealed on Sept. 7, 2006, alleged that Wheat, Hi-Tech and other company officials and associates conspired to manufacture “generic” prescription drugs and other controlled substances, including anabolic steroids, in Belize and illegally import them into the United States. It further alleged that they marketed the products as generic prescription drugs from Canada directly to U.S. citizens through various Web sites, and also engaged in mail fraud and wire fraud."

You don't know what really happened. The company could very well have violated the law. Also, you mention McCain twice, and the article does not mention him at all. The FDA, DEA and Dept. of Justice were operating under current law in this indictment, not anything you imagine McCain to be doing. Are you an Obama plant or something?

LOL...no, its jut McCain has a history of trying to legislate against vitamins. The idea being the gov't appears to be turning up the heat on vitamin industry - linking it to deadly steroids - therefore needing increased policing, reducing our freedom to treat out bodies as we want

I realize since "you all" have been in office everyone is guilty until they fail to prove their are innocent. Even though McCain looks strong I hope somehow the constitution will be restored.

Seriously though, there has been a huge paradigm shift in the country in the Bush years - one in which a gov't official only has to claim WMD on the most tenuous evidence and most Americans become blood thirsty. If there are claims of misdoing Americans are ready for a lynching - there is no waiting for a "fair trial". An accusation is proof enough - no due process of law is needed - Harley is ready to lock this guy up now.

Haha. I said he could be guilty and you don't know whether he is guilty or not. How is that wanting to lock him up? And you blamed McCain twice, and the article does not even mention McCain. So you are blaming someone with NO evidence.

I am glad we were able to (help) string up that genocidal maniac Saddam who kept violating the ceasefire agreements and who would have pursued his WMD programs after the inspectors gave up. Good for us.

Sorry, you have that wrong. I don't have to assume the accused is innocent before being proved guilty, the justice system and courts do. Similarly I don't have to assume O.J. was or is innocent, just because the courts said he is.

You are the one who concluded that the charges sounded "trumped up" because of what his lawyers said. Well, what do you think his lawyers are going to say, big boy? - that the charges have merit?

But this bust has nothing to do with new laws anybody (like McCain) might want to pass. It was done with laws already on the books - which were not put there by McCain. So it is rather odd you would keep harping on McCain when there is no relevance to this case whatsoever.

Lots of Dems , like Biden want to restrict vitamins too. Dems like Waxman and Mitchell and Biden also want to crack down more on steroids reducing our freedom to treat our bodies as we want. I know, let's boot the Dems out and keep our steroids and let McCain restrict supplements since they're mostly worthless anyway.

Unfortunately we don't know what Obama would do about steroids or supplements since he is a vacuous empty suit and will avoid such issues as long as he can.

I am just right of libertarian, and my only problem with McCain is he is an idiot,

And goes from liberal to mild over night, but what the heck he is 70 something so give him a break,

Typical, let ignore drugs, meth, smack, crack, the basics you can get anywhere and seriously focus on these lethal vitamins,

Has his head up his ass

But that is okay considering the DFL, I will vote for him

Wish I had a lot more money I would buy a real candidate to kick some ASS/
