Default T3 vs. T4 question?

I have read a couple posts here on T4 and still have a bit of confusion. I realize the T4 having the extra T to be cleaved by the body making it less effective when compared to T3. Does this make it useless or just less potent when compared to T3. I have gotten mixed signals of T4 being completly useless and then being just weaker. If it is simply weaker than T3 would a higher dose counteract this. If so what kind of dosage would T4 become effective. Any replies or info are appreciated. Thanks.

100mcg of T4 would be equivalent to roughly 25mcg of T3.

Also, T4 is WAY less effective than T3. Unfortunately, I don't have the reference on me(The Thyroid Source Book).

T3 is absorbed much more effectively and at a much faster pace. T4 is more of a long term drug, it doesn't work as quickly as T3, it's more for people with Chronic Thyroid problems.

T4 is useless for normal people. T4 is the stored version of your thyroid hormone and the body converts T4 into T3 (active thyroid hormone). On a diet this convertion plummets, so adding T4 won do anything.

I used t4 (synthroid0 before trying t3. I was dieted down when I tried it, but the t4 did work well for me. However, I tried it a second time when I was not dieting as strict and it did'nt do much so I went to t3... t3 is deffiantely more potent, but if people say t4 is useless, they are wrong. It can be almost just as effective if you are already almost there... t4 is probably a better bet for a beginner.

I believe its an iodine that has to be cleaved in order to convert to T-3. Regaurdless, an excess of T-4 signals the HPTA to slow production of T-4 resulting in less TSH. this will slow down natural thyroid out put so when you come off it will take longer to restore you natural metabolism. exogenous T-4 sucks.

Default t-4 works

for people without a thyroid, let me tell you my brother-in-law had an over active thyroid, so over active that he was waking up in the morning paralyzed in the morning he couldnt get up out of bed even taking gobbs of potassium horse pills, so they gave him a radio active pill, and that killed his thyroid he gained 11 lbs in a week all they prescribe him now is t-4 and he lost the weight and is normal again. But as far as what I have heard from friends as I have never taken t-3 or t-4 you have to take t-3 to get the fat off.
