Default Chest Injury

I've been doing pretty good on my bench performance lately. However, at some point, I sustained an unusual injury to my right pec. I say it's unusual because it only hurts on heavy bench days when I'm actually pounding out some good reps with relatively heavy weight. The problem is also unusual because it involves a dull to sharp pain that originates in my right pec and extends thru the muscle right above my armpit and down into my forearm.

What the hell is going on? A tear, a strain, overtraining?

This really sucks 'cause I was just really starting to make some good bench gains.

Ideas? Thanks in advance.

It could be a slight tear. If you're on a cycle right now be careful and give it time to heal or you'll risk more damage. I ruptured a pec tendon while getting very strong during a cycle and would not wish this on anybody.

It also sounds like a nerve issue. The only one that can properly diagnose this is a good sports med doc. Others will just say, "Give it some rest" or "Just don't do that, then you won't have pain."

Have to agree with gymrat. If it goes all the way from the pec to the shoulder, most likely a nerve issue. Go to a sports med doc and he will be able to evaluate what nerve is being troublesome.
