Default Have you contributed time or money to a candidate?

We do a lot of arguing on this forum about politics. Has anyone made a substantial contribution to a candidate?

My wife and I just made a joint contribution to the Obama campaign. Yeah, now we'll be harassed to canvass for them, but it seemed like the right thing to do.

Thumbs down

I make it a point not to donate to any politician or party. Years ago after my father passed away my mom made a contribution to a political party, and she had politicians from across the country asking for contributions. I'm not talking about an occasional letter, I'm talking about 6 or more a week, and more during election years.

I donate to the RNC all the time. I did send in a little to the Romney campaign a few months ago.

Oh well.

Can i ask why YOU thought it was the right thing to do? i know you said your wife was an obama suporter but you werent at the beginning. I am just curious to why supporting your 2nd choice would seem like the right thing to do. If i was die hard about a candidate and they were going to get the nomination i could see making a donation if i felt strongly about him/her, but not someone i didnt support from the beginning.

As you know, Hulk, I supported Edwards. When he left the race, and with Bill Richardson not being a very viable candidate, our choice came down to Obama vs. Clinton. Both of us were, initially, inclined toward Clinton, but we did a lot of research and had endless family discussions about it.

This is the first election that my kids are old enough to understand, and my wife and I both wanted to model good citizenship for the kids, so we involved them in both the research and the discussions. They were terrific, very informed, passionate, and all three ended up supporting Clinton. My wife and I, though, gradually swung over to Obama. I think this is a truly historic moment. It reminds me a lot of 1968 - I was there, a lot of you weren't - and that, more than anything, swung me to Obama.

And I think, coming to that choice, it's the "right thing" to lend more than just moral support.

So that's where that is.

BTW, great to hear from you, bro. I miss seeing you and your gal.

I donated to Bill Nelson when he ran against Katherine Harris. But that's about it. It was a waste of money.

1968 haha. McCarthy lost the nomination, and Humphrey lost the election.
As a Republican I am glad you choose that as your historical model

Back in the beginning, I sent a small donation to Rudy. At the time I thought he may be just what we needed to bring the country back together. I suppose the images of 0911 were still fresh in my heart and I longed to see us together like that again. I didint actually hold any campaign parties for him or do anything on the ground.

Just recently we sent another small donation to the McCain camapign. Again, I wont do much groundn work for him becuase frankly Im not that convinced about the man. But, it takes two minutes to write a measely check so what the hell.

Id love to see a republican come along that makes me want to walk the streets for him. To knock on doors and make phone calls and give more than I can afford. Maybe some day.

I would give my money to a make-a-wish foundation before a crooked politician.

I should run for office???

The day a politician is PRO-AAS, is the day I might reconsider.

You simply will not believe, but yes I did

I gave money to Barrack Obama

I just know if he is the liberal candidate, even John McCain would beat him.

I wish the republicans would have picked Romeny.

But with Nader taking the real nut jobs, the democrats really would not have a shot.

Obama, is too liberal, to far fetched, has no basic fundamentals, does not understand policy, the economy, markets, the direction of the country or American Values. And frankly in the south and mid-east, there are many, many older white people that would just not vote for a black man, same nut jobs that may not vote for Hillary, because she is a crook.

At least you know what you are getting with Hillary, her only goal is personal wealth and power, nothing else matters. She would do anything to increase here power and portfolio, just like her husband, they should both be in Prison

Obama is good looking, well rehearsed, dresses nice, young and really not informed about anything.

MaCain, well with cancer and his age, how the heck is he going to function.

Nadir, who is radical pro Muslim, and hates Israel, as an arab, is still wishing he had a new corvair. He was out of touch with how we make money, which is the single most important thing to everyone in America even in the early 60’s, but God bless him, fewer crazy people voting for Obama or Hillary.

You know HHH and McCarthy were from a different era, and in 72 I voted for McGovern, Oh I don’t know why, but I was pissed at some one for sending me to Viet Nam.

In 1968 I lived in Chicago, the drugs were cheap and good, the democratic convention was sooooo execrated except for Daily” s crazy cops. He was a democrat and a real ass hole, not that his kid is not much different.

Today HHH would be a republican, and McGovern a crazy from South Dakota, shooting pheasants would be well a crazy from South Dakota shooting pheasants.

Honest liberals or democrats, sincere democrats were wiped out by the Viet Nam war and Teddy Kennedy.

To be fair the same is true for republicans.
