Look at the second pic down....this is what my Cpap mask look like:
CPAP Machines and CPAP Masks for the Treatment of Sleep Apnea
My cousin has a full face mask that covers his entire face....and a friend uses a mouth piece.....some people I know didn't have to use anything....they just had their tonsils, adenoids and uvula removed....so it varies from person to person.
The sleep studies are not just for Sleep Apnea, but for sleep disorders.. It helps to determine what could be going wrong...and what effect it will have on your health / body.
My first test involved me going to the sleep center at the hospital. I got there at 9pm.......and didn't leave until 430pm the next day. They hook electrodes all over your body to gauge eye movement, oxygen levels and a load of other stuff. I also had an infared camera on me all night and i was also audio taped. So everything is being recorded.
The test determines how long it took me to fall into a deep sleep and how many times thru the night i stopped breathing. They said I stopped breathing 78-80 times throughout the night ....there were more but they only count occurrences that last more than 10 sec I think the doc said.
It also takes me less than 2min to fall into the deep sleep stage...according to the test.
Like i said before it shows my oxygen levels falls to less than 70% which they say puts me in the having a stroke category.....not to mention internal organs becoming enlarged as a result.
So my point here for everyone is to consider getting a sleep study done just to make sure all is well....because this sleep thing (or the lack of quality sleep) is serious....
A lot of you catz are talking about the meds you are taking.....but can you tell me how you are feeling throughout the day ? are you tired... ? are you able to function ? Any probs working or concentrating ?
