My latest good deed to someone besides my wife happened the day before yesterday while I was returning to our hotel in Vegas. I approached the outside doors of the front entrance and observed inside the hotel a young woman by herself strugling to get through the first of 2 doors to leave the hotel. She had a small child with her and at least 3 bags of luggage.

I grabbed the door for her and moved out of the way with a smile on my face only to have a small asian man come from behind me and mash right into the doorway without any consideration for the woman, nor myself, nor even acknowledging the 2 of us were even there. I guess karma got his ass tho because right when he was crossing the threshold of the door (he had a baby with him also in a stroller) he dropped like a BAZILLION things... crap went flying everywhere. I stood there for a few seconds and it was obvious it was going to take this asshat a long time to gather up all that stuff, so while holding that door I turned to my left to the next door and I opened that one for the young lady. She smiled and shuffled her way slowly through the door and said "Thank you so very much, I greatly appreciate it - its nice to see someone with a little class" and she rolled her eyes at the asian guy still on the ground trying to pickup his crap with his head down, still oblivious to either of us standing there.

I offered to help her with her bags, but she said it was ok as her car was right there at the curb. I then turned and the guy was still on the ground picking up his stuff, so I just walked through the door into the hotel and let the door go.

Man, I will tell ya something - this kind of thing has almost turned me into a racist person towards asians. My last few vacations to Vegas and Hawaii I have had nothing but negative experiences with the masses of asians that I encounter there. I typically don't generalize, and I am sure it is because of their culture and how they live in their society - for instance im sure in Hong Kong its packed so tight its ridiculous and it doesn't leave much room for "politeness" or "common courtesy". However I've never seen a group of people be so inconsiderate of other people in my life than I have witnessed asians being in both Vegas and Hawaii - running into people, bumping people as they power-walk past without even acknowledging the other person was even there, much less saying excuse me or anything of that nature. That type of behavior infuriates me, however I am digressing from the intent of this thread and post.

It does seem tho, that most random acts of kindness that I do go unnoticed. If I let someone pull out in traffic in front of me, rarely do they wave back to indicate a thank you. A lot of times I hold doors for women (older women do this to me a lot) and I never get a thank you - its like they think that is something that SHOULD be done as a requirement instead of just being grateful for it. There have been a few times that, that specific example has really pissed me off to the point where I turn and say in a very loud voice "YOU ARE VERY WELCOME" and then turn to go my separate way. People like that make it very hard to continue to be kind to random people...
